I’m bad at starting new habits. I’m also pretty bad at keeping habits. In the last ten years, the only small habits I’ve been able to stick with came from modifying my environment. Here’s what I did: I identified my ‘watering holes’

The places in my house I sit for extended periods.

For me, I have only three:
My desk.
Bedside table.
Kitchen table.

So, I wanted to start putting sunscreen on. I bought three bottles and put one in each place.

Now, everytime I sit, I remember to put it on (because it reminds me).

Alarms never worked. Checklists never worked. But figuring out the places I spend my time and making it so obvious I couldn’t miss it did.

Now if I want to add something in, I put it next to my watering hole. And yes, I’ve got supplements, sunscreen, and hot sauce sitting next to one another on my kitchen table. But ya know what - it works for me.
