@RosemaryFrazer@BBCNewsnight Yes, I think this is extremely unprofessional too. Its also not very eloquent. Using words about sanity and blowing up are bad sixth form debate rubbish. Not sure why this guy has been given this role.
@LordRennard@patrickkmaguire@joshcm777@BBC He inspired me when he said no to joining the war in Iran. We need more politicians with a backbone like starmer, and less who take £5m payments.
@martin_rumler@patrickkmaguire Corbyn was 500 to 1 to win and won. Thatcher was heading out but suddenly became hugely popular with the Falklands. Churchill was red hot favourite in 1945. All went the extremely unexpected route, as did plenty more.
@benwansell If someone votes for a candidate who they expect to be a PM, there's a good chance that extra carr and funding would flow to that constituency. He wasn't a Labour candidate, he was a unicorn candidate tonight. Hence people choosing him over a rubbish reform pick.
@benwansell I think this is daft extrapolation too. The reform candidate was genuinely offensive to women, out of his depth, and a bit of a plonk. Why would someone on the fence not choose Burnham?
@benwansell@patrickkmaguire Churchill was also 6 to 1 on with the whole of fleet street screaming he would win in 1945. I dont think Patrick will know this, but I think Ben probably should be aware of this. Nobody is a shoo in, not even Burnham and his fan boys.
@benwansell@patrickkmaguire Its not really a secret that unexpected things happen in leadership contests, perhaps you could enlighten your friend about Heseltine not winning, and about Corbyn having been 500 to 1. Anyway, your tweet itself has no political analysis either Ben. Any thoughts on the politics?
@owenjonesjourno The reform candidate being an offensive plonker, plus everyone wanting to have a PM as their local MP, who can make a difference locally, were the two main reasons behind the margin.
@afneil Worst nightmare is nuclear attack by the Russians or even the Americans. Reform running an idiotic sexist candidate with the appeal of chlamydia explains much of this result.
@LordRennard@patrickkmaguire@joshcm777@BBC I thought it was the single worst interview I have seen in years, but fair enough if you thought differently Chris. Not sure why you seem to be suggesting Starmer should step aside, if he is a bad candidate for labour, surely you would want him to stay?
@maitlis I think you missed off tactical voting from "women" from that list. He was a shockingly poor political communicator. Not everything should be seen through the prism of political parties when the guy kept tweeting offensively about women.
@maitlis@patrickkmaguire I hate the rush of blood to the head, algorithmic style reporting. This is the keys to 10 downing st, affecting millions of lives. Can reporters just calm down and focus on the policies, not the tedious deltas of the latest polling moves.
@maitlis@patrickkmaguire Maguire's coverage of tonight is the worst I can remember for years. He said plane of reality and called people "mad". You know politics moves fast and even red hor favourites sometimes lose. A leadership battle might actually be good for labour, instead of a Kamala coronation
@martin_rumler@patrickkmaguire Starmer won a landslide. Has there been a secret general election that you know about but nobody else does? Parties are often unpopular mid cycle, that has happened for hundreds of years. Thatcher came back to win in 83.
@patrickkmaguire I've bought the times on and off for 30 years, and im sorry but this Maguire reporting tonight is the first time I've ever seen rush of blood to the head, twitterstorm style reporting. Its rubbish.
