I have for long avoided responding to the Deputy President's tribal diatribe, but today's activities leave me no choice.

As elected leaders, we have a responsibility to our people to protect and provide them with opportunities to make something out of themselves.

Just over a year ago, in June 2023, 52 traders, selling goods on a road reserve, were killed in Londiani, Kericho County, when a truck driver lost control and ploughed into them. Thirty of them sustained life-changing injuries. These people cannot come back to life. I have a duty and mandate that will not let me fall for populist political gimmicks at the expense of the lives and safety of Nairobians.

This morning, in a misinformed tribal diatribe, and while speaking in vernacular in the heart of our nation’s capital, you have chosen to use falsehoods to incite traders against the measures we are taking.

https://t.co/HPwZ4MC3Da government has no plan to relocate the Marikiti Market. Selected produce will be delivered wholesale to the other markets we have built using taxpayers' money. What we will not allow are traders endangering their lives by selling their wares on the roadside. They will move to Kangundo Road Market. However, if you have sufficient space outside your office on Harambee Avenue, I am sure they will be happy to display their wares and ply their trade in that safe environment.

There will be order in this major artery into the city. The people of Nairobi and the leadership of the market support this move fully.

My government has continuously engaged our people and I personally met the leadership of Wakulima/Marikiti Market last week. We agreed on these and other measures that will ease congestion in the market and improve the safety and welfare of our traders and citizens. We will not allow you to take us back.

A leader of your calibre should provide informed solutions and not stoke tribal disunity in our country. Nairobi is a cosmopolitan global hub that will operate in an orderly manner. I can assure you of that. I know you are dealing with other weighty and impending political issues.

Keep the people of Nairobi out of it.

There were five fires responded to by NCCG fire brig at

1. Kayole next to Naivas
2. ⁠Umoja II market sheds next to the Chiefs camp
3. ⁠Mathare 4A next to air force
4. ⁠Bondeni in Kibra
5. ⁠Toi Market

First call for Toi came in at 5:45am

First engine arrived at Toi at 6:00 am

It was intercepted by thugs who stole some equipment and the water delivery hose pipes

We mobilized other engines as well as KDF… by 7:00 am four more engines were at Toi site but situation was volatile so it took a little longer to control the fire.

That’s what happened.

Who set these fires? We await investigations.

As we were fighting the Toi fire, we received another call at Kibondeni Naivasha Road Kawangware… two other engines were deployed there.

Between yesterday evening and mid this morning , we responded to 7 fire incidents. No fatalities or injuries except in Toi, which are deeply regrettable.

NCCG will support all the affected communities to rebuild.

Visited traders affected by fire incidents at Toi Market and later at Umoja 2. Poleni sana to all affected and condolences to the bereaved. Sadly, we lost 4 souls in the Toi inferno.

We will support their families during this trying time. For the traders, we will rebuild and help you get back to your feet.

Thanks to the first responders and all who tried to help salvage the situation.

We had a total of 7 fires across the city last night, and all affected will get support.

For those who caused incitement, it is well, nothing will stop us from supporting our people.

Kenyan Philosopher Says Gen-Z Protestors Went Hunting For a Rabbit, And Caught a Buffalo
I am having this conversation with a good Kenyan man, a deep thinker, and he tells me, "President Ruto's govt, tax, and corruption were the target of the recent Gen Z protests, but like most protests, the changes it has been made won't be the most significant or enduring."
"Strange thing to say. What will be then?", I ask.
"Two things. First, the Elite Political Settlement that has governed Kenya for 60 years of independence, about how the riches of this land and power are distributed, is the main casualty. That is over. The young people went against a two-year-old govt, they brought down a 60-year-old Order instead", he said.
"Second, the political authority of the wider Christian church, which was important for fuelling the 1990s democracy wave, is shredded, so they must reset. The mosques have emerged much better. That also tells you that the real fightback will not come from the Ruto govt", he argued.
"Surely, any response has to be political, ideological even. The state is the state, it will deploy its power", I say.
"Maybe in the short-term, but in the long-term, 10 to 20 years, the critical response will be philosophical, spiritual, and economic. There will be no guns. It will be fought on the idea of what Kenya is; there will be big attempt to redefine it.
It will play out even in what is taught in school. Watch for the subtle change in church sermons. The Establishment will reallocate their money, so they are seen to spend it on, for example, saving forests, even building museums, instead of rehabilitating golf courses. The popular music of this country has already changed in three weeks, and expect the books of fiction written by Kenyans that come out from next year to read very different from anything we've seen in the past. That's where the exciting stuff is going to be. The kids went hunting for a rabbit, and caught a buffalo."
I guess that was not entirely unexpected when you have had one too many vanilla lattes.

INTERVENTIONS TO MITIGATE EFFECTS OF FLOOD WATER ON WATER AND SEWER SYSTEMS

We have managed to restore water supply through the following key water pipelines whose operations were affected by heavy downpour;
1. Outering Road pipeline DN 600 - The pipeline has been blank flanged to ensure Nyayo, Fedha, Tassia, Avenue Park, pipeline, Kware, Mukuru, plot 10 estates are supplied with water from Mombasa Road direction
2. New Likoni Road pipeline DN 600 - The repair works have enabled water supply to Balozi, Hazina, Winners Chapel, Diamond Park I and II to be resumed, road A, South B estates, Lunga lunga, industrial areas and environs from both Likoni and Mombasa road direction
3. Kenyatta University pipeline DN 250 - The pipeline has been isolated to facilitate repairs. Areas affected included Kenyatta University, Barracks, Githurai and Zimmermann Estates.
4. DN 110 pipeline along Kirichwa River which had been washed off near Dennis Pritt Rd and Brookside roundabout has been repaired with other parts being relocated
