Mrs. Smith’s Pre-calc students #collaborated using spaghetti noodles to discover what the graph of the sine function would look like. Mathematical 🗣and❓were through the roof! @York1YCH@York1Schools
People are so quick to say “just make the lesson more engaging” but when kids are so addicted to their phones, they don’t even give the lesson a chance. Turns out when we lock them up and they actually tune into what’s happening in class, they like it.
Using the activity “Count to 100”, we learned about what makes great group work AND how simply studying/using patterns makes us mathematicians!

Learned how to use @iorad today!!
May have hit a rough patch (read: didn’t read/watch the instructions completely before starting), but in the end I’ve got 4 tutorials ready for my students’ independent stations tomorrow!

Today our secondary team @ITIS_khardwick @ITIS_LeighZ @BeckyFunderburk facilitated our 2nd session of Student Centered Learning cohort! These teachers are on 🔥 and ready to lay a 💪🏻 foundation for a student centered learning environment! #YSD1forimpact
Impostor syndrome: “I don't know what I'm doing. It's only a matter of time until everyone finds out."
Growth mindset: "I don't know what I'm doing yet. It's only a matter of time until I figure it out."
The highest form of self-confidence is believing in your ability to learn.
I’ve known for a couple weeks now that I’ll have a few blocks of Geometry & Precal this year, but I just realized that means I may have some of my students from last year again!! #cantwait#mathteacher
@CJIhme That’s brilliant! We’re in multi-step equations now, systems next, and they’re simply copying from Google or Photomath when I’m not standing right beside them, even in low stakes practice opportunities 🤦🏻♀️
Math teachers of the world- any advice on students using math apps to solve all their problems & not actually learning the math? I’m having trouble coming up with realistic solutions, especially since so many assignments are digital these days.

If you have trouble explaining the logic behind a rubric, why you made the choices you made, and what the goal of an assessment was...maybe rethink giving it. And If it offends you to be asked, maybe rethink whether you have the growth mindset you encourage in your students.
.@BetsyDeVos In the midst of a pandemic, holding kids accountable for content-based standards on an end-of-course test is placing undue pressure on them & the teachers. #waivethetests
One of my ESOL students (speaks zero English) just said “bye, have day” on his way out with the biggest smile!!! 😄🎉😭 As a math teacher, watching these students grow in language is eye-opening and awe-inspiring.
With my district’s current one-day-a-week return plan, I’m realizing I now will be giving my 1st day spiel 16 times and have to pick out 4 different 1st day outfits.

Worried about more eLearning? Don’t. You can teach an entire online class with a word processor and email if you had to. Online learning is still learning. You’re a teacher. Teach. You’ll be fine. You need something specific, DM me. I got stuff.
