The Association of Graduate Nurses and Midwives of Uganda (AGNMU) has noted with concern the arrest of medical intern leaders by @PoliceUg this morning.

We strongly condemn this act and emphasise that pressing issues regarding medical intern welfare require immediate and meaningful attention from both the Ministry of Health and the government.

The core of this ongoing crisis stems directly from the government's persistent failure to commit to facilitating all medical interns for the 2026/2027 period, irrespective of who sponsored their university training.

Rather than addressing these legitimate grievances, authorities have resorted to intimidation, yet arresting healthcare leaders will never solve structural challenges. True resolution requires open dialogue and administrative action rather than police intervention.
