I would favour a five-wave impulse over W–X–Y, although it is not textbook-perfect.
Waves 2 and 4 do not overlap wave 1 territory, so the impulse remains valid.
Wave 3 is longer than wave 1, so wave 3 is not the shortest.
The advance into the $2.70 high looks increasingly impulsive.
The violent rejection after wave 5 is consistent with completion of a five-wave sequence.
The main weakness is the unusually large and extended wave 5 relative to waves 1 and 3. I therefore label it 1–2–3–4–5 as the primary count, with W–X–Y retained as the alternative until we do deeper analysis and check the internal subdivisions on a lower timeframe.
Importantly, five waves up implies this was probably wave A or 1 of a larger structure, not necessarily the entire correction. A subsequent three-wave retracement followed by another advance would favour the bullish 1–2 interpretation; a deeper corrective reversal would suggest the five waves formed wave A.
Trade risk/reward carefully imo
