As a fellow HVAC nepo baby I have two words to say.
PE sucks
Also running a family business for multiple generations is wayyyyy harder than everyone thinks it is. Props to Hoffman Bros. I really look up to them.
Imagine cosplaying a “PE guy” while not having an actual fund or a single successful exit 🤡
I was told not to punch down. But Paul’s ego is so high that I don’t think this counts.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming, featuring cows and HVAC…
@ToddLlewellyn 2 years ago before i started working for my dad a technician did not bill a $15,000 job. I didn’t find it until 6 months after the fact. That job still haunts me
@shawngorham There is a time and a place for the $30,000 system. After 20 years and the customer wants a nice upgrade? You can get to $30,000.
Sadly one of our private equity competitors sold a $27,000 single stage furnace to a nice lady in our market last year. I hate that scummy stuff.
@guessworkinvest We have done the same thing. Performance based pay creates high tickets and incentivizes growth, but we have found that hourly pay with a small commission structure creates a good blend of technician incentive and customer experience.
@JaredDHardin Today a customer signed a quote to get the blower motor changed on a furnace. After the job was done the technician went to get payment and they said they weren't going to do it. Idk how some people sleep at night
@ToddLlewellyn Honestly I wish I could tell you it gets better. Labor management is really tough the more techs you have.
This week I have been swapping HVAC installs around like crazy trying to fit everything in
