This is bad and boomers should be ashamed for voting like this but also worth remembering that the top 10% of boomers hold 71% of their generation's wealth. More than a third have zero retirement savings. This caricature of the laughing cashmere sweater boomer never sat well with me because I know too many boomers IRL who are trapped in leaky, falling-down houses and wringing their hands about how they're going to make ends meet.
The actual solution to this is going to involve several generations of selfless cross-generational patronage and duty, a retrofit of the American social fabric so severe it will basically be a different country if we can pull it off.
WSJ just released a list of top towns for young couples to raise a family.
1) Newport Beach, CA
2) Rumson, NJ
3) Alpine, NJ
4) Park City, UT
5) Jackson, WY
6) Aspen, CO
7) Palm Beach, FL
8) Nantucket, MA
What do you notice about this list ?
@social_diagram@LeadingReport My point was that W2 wages traditionally increase as you get older and the average CEO age is 62. SS is politically nuclear so structural reform is unlikely. Removing the cap is a way to raise SS revenue without burdening young workers.
Concede the nuance in wages vs. wealth.
REPORTER: “So you’re not against data centers in general?”
PENNSYLVANIA MAN: “No, no! Because we either move on or we go down the drain. That’s the way I see it.”
@texaggie9325@MattWalshBlog My point is that according to the published platform of the GOP voting for them is literally a vote to keep the Social Security quagmire as is.
And the average age of voters is 52-58 depending on election cycles. Millenial voting isn’t the problem (but could be the solution!)
@samkarlin@aegallo Realistically, what other choice does rural Louisiana have? Boyce is literally going bankrupt and Delta Forge 1 may give it a lifeline. Same for places like Mer Rouge, and St. Francesville.
I may diverge stylistically, but this administration is standing up for rural LA.
@texaggie9325@MattWalshBlog It’s literally on the Republican Party’s platform to “protect social security including no changes to the retirement age”. Millennials have been given a binary choice between a terrible Democratic Party and a bad Republican Party who both want to redistribute wealth.
“There’s no benefit that came out of you putting me in those schools. No benefit at all.”
Brutal 2 minutes of NHJ’s daughter dismantling her mother’s school integration experiment on @ThisAmerLife.
$300 million invested in Franklin, Louisiana.
300,000 additional square feet of shipyard space.
330+ employees today and continuing to grow.
The infrastructure and workforce to build autonomous ships at scale. We’re expanding our footprint in Franklin to meet the scale of the mission ahead.
This is what investing in the future of American shipbuilding looks like.
One of the most underrated but substantive actions on this administration is the anti-fraud effort. When billions of dollars are stolen it undermines the whole system. Harsh accountability* is the only path forward.
*should apply to congressional stock trading as well.
@RyanLEllis@TyofTX@usedgov This is the exact mentality that has led to absent fathers, and generations that are worse off than the ones before it.
We need to incentivize stable nuclear families if we want to bring back American values.
@HiddenPinky@peterjhasson And? The long-term benefits of property taxes, operational jobs (though maybe reduced), electric grid infrastructure, and community investment still remain after construction.
@peterjhasson I live in a rural part of Louisiana where a data center project was just announced. The shortsightedness of the community made me write an article on “The Cost of Doing Nothing” and letting our rural towns die.
It’s imperfect but one of our few options.

Louisiana Has To Decide What It Wants
We cannot reconcile a desire for a fundamentally stronger Louisiana with a demand that everything remain exactly as it is today.
