We don't have the same apparatus that they've spent decades building up. They groom (in every sense of the word) candidates for years, allowing them to do stupid stuff and than cover it up so they can control them later. Swalwell is the perfect example.

AOC has a number of scandals that quietly went away, like how did she get ownership of the banned Twitter handle of an Islamic activist group in the UK and did she declare the cash value for her campaign disclosures? Or maybe how she went to great lengths and lied multiple times, in writing, to keep her multi-millionaire activist Chief of Staff from having to turn over his tax records to the House Ethics committee? (He and the person she lied about being her primary policy advisor, her comms director both resigned very soon after the ethics committee said the chief of staff still had to give them the records)
