@KVanValkenburg I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. The predation around very young basketball phenoms in the US seems similar to that of Euro/Latin soccer and Venezuelan/Dominican baseball and it skeeves me the fuck out.
@KVanValkenburg I’ve accepted the fact that the US has neither the cultural nor the institutional factors required to field a team that can make a real run at the WC. Those missing factors will also affect US player opportunities in baseball and basketball as those sports grow internationally.
@NoLayingUp@Titleist@BigRandyNLU@DJPie@TronCarterNLU Thank you! It’s such a vague, hollow platitude. I suspect “Grow the Game” is often code for “Return pro golf viewership to Tiger levels so we can keep getting paid.”
@DimeDropperPod@MoreLife2K17@mattyglesias Ha. Im trying. But the intersection of politics Twitter and sports Twitter is SO much dumber than either of them separately.
@StanfordBeddoe@MattMoco1@mattyglesias That is interesting. How does the bottom half of the league in attempts compare to the top team in attempts in 1986?
@MattMoco1@mattyglesias The in-out passing of today is WAAAAAAAY less creative now. It’s fine. Like you said different games. Jaw dropping passes by Bird and Magic were a daily occurrence. Now I might see a few a month that raise an eyebrow. Way more jaw-dropping 3s or athletic D now. It’s all good.
@MoreLife2K17@mattyglesias No. Just have the experience and wisdom to understand the difference in what the modern game values vs the game 40 years ago. The modern game has faster stronger players that can shoot from 3. There’s less of a premium on creating opportunities for easy 2s.
@MattMoco1@mattyglesias Don’t be ridiculous. The modern game is all about creating opportunities for clean 3 looks to counter much more athletic defense. The 80s was about creating as many opportunities for easy layups. No blind nostalgia, just understand the diff between then and now.
@ByronYork Those purses are not sustainable. Golf is a niche pro sport and, absent a new Tiger, the SSG money will dry up faster than LIV’s Saudi money once John Henry and co. realize it.
@Brad__22@Sad_Liberal We binged Gilmore Girls with our now 18 yo daughter back around 2020. Yeah, not 90s TV, granted... And yeah, iPhone addiction hadn’t fully set in yet. But still, it was nice.
The best thing to do is to ban betting apps. The second best thing to do is to fine betting apps $100,000 every time they ban someone for being too good, $50,000 of which goes straight to the person who's been banned.
@boooyorkcity@mattyglesias She probably spent more than you would expect because parts of New Hampshire are served by some Boston local network affiliates.
@mattyglesias Sounds great. 55 yo soon-to-be empty nester with no mortgage here. I’d gladly trade my SFH in a desirable Boston suburb for a condo in a walkable MA neighborhood but our housing costs would explode.
Thinking of building an ADU for us to live in and give the house to the kid.
