@zeynep If it makes researchers post their data and code in reproducible standard formats and part of the review process is reproducing the analyses, and publication will be online native, and easier/cheaper journal access, then weโll be cooking!
@patio11 Limits on production & supply (housing regulation) only become obvious issues when demand increases and supply is not allowed to meet it (wealth creation in tech). So many assign blame to the factor exposing the problem rather than the problem itself.
@xwanyex The part that is right is just basic economics. In places where houses and apartments are expensive, they would be less expensive if there were more of them. It's not fair to young ppl to restrict the total supply to what's already owned by old ppl.
@arpitrage The KSI data is a red herring - they are the most severe subset of the injury-crashes. Waymos are much less likely to be in a serious crash at all, which is a pre-requisite to be in a KSI-type crash. So it's an attenuated signal at best.
@Tyler_A_Harper Seems like a lot of ppl interpreted your statements as "current academics need to adopt more conservative beliefs." When actually you are saying: each person can continue to hold their beliefs & values! You should just have more colleagues who disagree with you!
The American Bureau of Shipping has approved the design of a container ship that would run on two molten-salt nuclear reactors, placed at midship, where collision and wave loads are lowest.
With no fuel tanks and no funnel, that freed volume carries 15,000 boxes at 25 knots, on a hull sized for the widened Panama Canal.
@mattdemonte We care about cost per quality adjusted token, not just cost or tokens.
If you look at the economic models, that's why quality of outputs matters, and needs to be included; https://t.co/PaqGRLN2LT
@davidmanheim@alexolegimas@emollick Obv there is high variance across lawyers and authors. But it gives a range where we could start to model a market for tokens that includes humans and AIs with different price points and compare (across a range of quality & other metrics.)
@davidmanheim@alexolegimas@emollick I was thinking literally how much written output say a lawyer generates in a week or month. Obviously lawyers do other things too, but they bill by the hour so you could calculate the market value of the actual writing. Same with say book publishing.
@davidmanheim@alexolegimas@emollick Somebody should start modeling the dollars per token that humans are getting paid at different jobs (with or without AI). This would allow us to calculate the intelligence premium that humans currently enjoy and model the pressures on certain jobs.
@AlanLevinovitz There should be AI classes and non-AI classes. Tyler Cowen suggested we should try a class where you read and have a tutor-style conversation with the AI for some hours per week and someone grades the quality of your questions / prompts about the topics (demonstrate learning).
