@barbarismcrit@DavidGoesPlaces The Colorado labor wars, all the shit in Appalachia and the midwest mine battles of the 20s. I feel like this stuff has been erased from memory.
“Joe Biden fucked her,” says the third [Biden] White House aide. “He fucked her. And according to her book, he called her the morning of the debate to be like, ‘I heard your donors are talking shit about me.’ He was the fucking worst. He’s a prick.” https://t.co/PPkjGmJiiJ
And yet we are not talking about the fact that Black voters and voting power in the South and in the CBC are on the verge of being extinguished or diminished greatly.
As I mentioned weeks ago… there were 2 windows to release this damn thing so as to be meaningful and not a big distraction and this moment is not one of those windows.
Today there will be folks tweeting 10-15 times today about this report and have probably only discussed southern redistricting a handful of times (if that) since Callais. ( And apparently, we are not capable of doing both at the same time.)
Back to task ahead…
Most people don’t know Virginia governors only serve one term. This isn’t a “let’s work on it veto.” This is a “I lied to you and I don’t have to worry about it veto.”
Here is Governor Spanberger's (@GovernorVA) full answer on her veto of bills to create a retail market for recreational marijuana sales.
1. She says she still supports the creation of a retail marijuana market.
2. Spanberger says starting retail sales on January 1 created a "rushed timeframe."
3. The number of retail stores in the bills (350) was a concern for her.
4. Her priorities on future legislation on the issue include getting it right, setting up a market that is durable and successful, ensuring the rules of the road are clear, ensuring people know what they are purchasing and consuming, and that the market takes public health into consideration.
Wasn’t the whole point of Drop Site to publish this kind of thing? Not doing so in a timely manner at the risk of upsetting renegade imperialism is just managing state PR.
When we first obtained this document, we deemed it too risky to publish in full. For a variety of reasons we don’t need to get into, the risk equation has changed and it’s important this memo be in the historical record.
Here’s the question for @AbdulElSayed: if you were a senator and a bill to enact free primary care for all plus an aggressive public option (like the American Health Gateway @SearchlightInst proposed) came to the floor, would you vote for it?
To his enormous credit, Bernie Sanders voted for the ACA. He has also been a driving force behind policies like capping the price of insulin, getting Medicare to cover hearing aids, and empowering the government to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors.
These are all extraordinarily good polices that could be transformative for many American families. Yet none of them can be called “revolutionary.” Bernie has always pushed the system to think big, but when push comes to shove, he votes for what he thinks will do the most good for the most people.
@playlikeajet24@mondiani@Jennyjinx@connorobrienNH It’s about shaping a political consensus/narrative against the war and mounting political pressure to change course. You’re out of synch with literally every other Dem rep and wasting your own time defending one of the most despised people in congress.
It’s crazymaking to me the same people who are pushing AES and Graham Platner told me Jasmine Crockett was too unelectable in a general election because she would rile up republicans.
@playlikeajet24@mondiani@Jennyjinx@connorobrienNH Of course it’s symbolic! Trump would veto it! You’re just accepting his nonsense excuse as if it wasn’t a calculated vote to bolster his defense lobbying prospects afterwards. Everyone else understands these nuances get fixed in the Senate anyway and sent back.
The replies to this are hilarious. The pod bros have literally been the natural enemy to us leftists for a decade—yet, the vitriol they receive from everyday libs is nuts. MSNBC really broke some minds in ways Fox News could only dream about.
Hell, I would love a report. I don’t have a damn thing to hide.
But while some folks were obsessing over a report most Americans will never read or care about, Black voters in the South were staring down the possibility of losing voting power for generations.
This may not be a priority for some people. But as a Black man from the South, this is about my existence. It’s about the environment in which I’m raising my sons. It’s about whether my children grow up in a state and a country that sees them as equal citizens whose voices matter.
This is personal to me.
This is about survival.
We are months away from what I believe are the most important midterms of my lifetime. The Democratic Party cannot afford distractions, vanity projects, or circular firing squads while the fundamental rights and representation of Black Americans are under attack.
History is watching all of us. Release the damn thing after the midterms but before the presidential elections, but in this moment we must FOCUS!
NEW: Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for years has publicly said that he’s a physician — but there’s overwhelming evidence that he’s had no experience as a licensed medical doctor.

This is one of my biggest beefs with 'the left' is just that they never make any attempt to adapt their beliefs to reality. Single Payer is just not a feasible/good policy with the Republican party being as insane and extreme as they are right now.
We should obviously push for universal healthcare, but if you are at all intellectually honest, single payer is just completely wrong for our country.
This is why "The West Wing" + the Obama "they go low, we go high" are both so damaging.
Ostensibly intelligent people are so blinded by their story of How America Works that they're unable to see how it's *actually* working.
When I was a kid, it was not the right time. Now, it will never happen. It’s almost like protecting private healthcare has been the liberal goal all along. Hence, these are the dogs we must abandon if we want to progress as a people.
Any national Democrat advocating for national Single Payer Healthcare right now is lying to you. Not just because it could be hard. Because it is impossible. That's the hard truth. Look at our country as it is. Imagine converting it to a nationalized system. It's not happening.
NEW from me. What a California legislator wants to do to address protests outside settlement land sales at synagogues: make it a crime to approach a person within 100 feet of a synagogue to hand out a leaflet, hold a sign, or even “engage in oral protest.” https://t.co/aTrpWXGGNB
