In the last few years we've seen:
- The plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer
- The Storming of the Capitol and pipe bombs left at the RNC and DNC
- The break-in to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and the brutal on Paul Pelosi
- Multiple assassination attempts against Trump
- The assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of on State Senator John Hoffman and his wife
- Luigi Mangione's assassination of Brian Thompson
- The assassination of Charlie Kirk
Political violence is contagious. It is spreading. It is not confined to one side or belief system. It should terrify us all.
The foundation of a free society is the ability to participate in it without fear of violence. Political violence is always an attack against us all. You have to be so blind not to see that.
Trump is openly violating the law on an unprecedented scale and everyone is acting like it's normal. NPR had a long story about a rare shrew. NYT says he's neglecting "legal niceties." This is an attack on the Constitution as profound as the attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
The freezing of federal grants, the firing of all inspector generals, the immunization of political violence - does everybody not see what’s happening?
In a blitzkrieg, Trump is trying to collapse our democracy - and probably our economy - and seize control.
Call it what it is.
The President has now made it clear that it’s ok to beat the shit out of police officers so long as you’re one of his supporters.
Finding it hard to focus on any of the other news from day one
Trump’s remarks in the Capitol Visitor Center today were a reminder that neither lies nor the liar who tells them get better with age. The Select Committee evidence is available on multiple websites and, as a criminal defendant, Donald Trump has had access to all the transcripts for years. Remember Trump’s character: He sat in his dining room watching on television as his supporters attacked our Capitol and brutally assaulted law enforcement. For hours, he refused to instruct the mob to leave. The truth will never change.
Democrats after losing by 2 points: Our brand is in ashes. We need a complete overhaul.
Republicans after losing by 4.5 points: Let's run the same guy again.
@BillKristol Also they had won every election since 2016 until this one. You can’t have a functioning political system that requires the one party that believes in democracy to win every election
Listen, I'm all in for the messaging/strategy biopsy. Need to build a bigger tent; use economic populism as the tentpole; be less judgmental and exclusionary.
But folks, he might not be lying about the round ups and political prosecutions. Job one is to get ready for that.
