Former Penn State interim coach Terry Smith has agreed to a four-year deal to stay on staff at the school and work with Matt Campbell, per ESPN sources. He’s a Penn State graduate who has been a staff linchpin there the last 12 years. @audsnyder4 first reported Smith was staying.
Sources: Penn State is finalizing an 8-year deal to make Matt Campbell the school’s next head coach. The deal is pending board approval for the compensation. Campbell has agreed to be Penn State’s coach and the sides have hammered out terms.
I'm not going to comment on the process or the long and winding road ... but if you told me 50 days ago that Penn State was going to end up with Matt Campbell, I would have told you that's a huge homerun. Campbell has been asked to consider NFL jobs for a decade and hasn't left.
God this was a brutal listen. Softball questions his PR people all signed off on. Saban ball-washing him. James Franklin talks like PSU wasn't ranked #2 at one point. Mentioned making them into a contender every season and no one outside of Happy Valley ever believed that. Gifted an easy road to the final four last year. Sucked against top-10 teams. "Did it with integrity and class." Give me a fucking break.
@BigGamePanther Still crying over this 4 days later is hilarious. U do know Penn state had a home/home scheduled with Virginia Tech for 20/25 but it got wiped out because of Covid right? If PSU had that non-con with VT, I don’t think you’d have ur panties in a bunch considering Pitt played Duq:)
