@WarhorseDiv Because you're cherry-picking by comparing a subgroup to a full population. The "average new car" is only part of a wider group of *all* cars sold. Include used cars (>70% of total car sales) and the story is quite different.
@SeanCasten Is the per capita spend calculated using spending on residential electricity only? If not, it would be misleading. In Louisiana the majority of power is sold to industrial and commercial users.
We should treat electricity as a growth platform (like highways, broadband) rather than a commodity to be tightly balanced at least cost. The federal agenda would then shift from “optimize around forecast demand” to “build abundant capacity and let growth come to it.”
@curious_founder Amazing work by you and your team, Michael. I love this sort of sleuthing, especially when it results in a useful public resource like yours.
Back in the day (say 4 years ago) the hyped energy narrative was “Bitcoin uses more electricity than many countries…” Today’s equivalent is AI.
As with every financial narrative, the story of Bitcoin/AI and electricity demand had/has a grain of truth — and ample BS. Beware.
I’m currently working on a project that involves forecasting solar deployment in LA. I just looked at MISO’s interconnection queue data and 43 solar projects have pulled their apps since OBBBA passed. That’s 7,655 MW and 40% of the pre-OBBBA planned solar capacity 😮💨
New $1.2 billion 500kV transmission project in Louisiana from Entergy, right around where the new Meta facility will be constructed in Richland Parish. Anticipated online by Dec. 2026. This is warp speed for transmission! Cargas 500 kV-Smalling 500-230 kV https://t.co/orcVDYaWa8
@heatmap_news@MattZeitlin@cleanaircatf@KSpokas Glad to see this getting some attention. I’m reading The Price is Wrong by Brett Christophers and much of the book decries the clean energy movement’s obsession with LCOE despite it having much less bearing on profitability than you would think!
@urbanmyths@l0cksk@josemorgado Sinner literally just had a 3 month rest period though. And is defending champ at Halle… he’s definitely motivated to keep that title.
Dolphins with pneumonia. Turtles stranded in oil-contaminated water. The Deepwater Horizon spill left a lasting mark on Gulf Coast wildlife. On our final day of the Blanco Center ggclub visualizations trace the spill’s hidden toll on Gulf Coast wildlife. 🐬🐢📊🛢️
The House Committee on State Affairs will likely vote on HB 3356 in a few minutes. This is a major threat, not just to renewable energy, but to the Texas economy. @txbiz study by @AuroraER_Oxford says it will result in a $6 million increase for industrial customers. #txlege 1/🧵
Big props to the Blanco Center’s ggqueen Claudia Laurenzano who made it her mission to help our staff advance their visualization skills in R. These vizzes look great!
How do you visualize an environmental disaster with public policy implications? Blanco Center ggclub spent Mar/Apr analyzing sat imagery, contamination data, and wildlife mortality records to create powerful #DataVizzes on the impact of the #DeepwaterHorizon disaster at 15. 🧵1/5
ICYMI: For years, advocates have been working to set up an energy efficiency program in Louisiana, whose residents pay high electric bills because they use more power than any state in the US.
After finally setting it up last year, regulators abruptly killed it this week
