@NativeSantaCruz@EricPoppen1 In engineering terms it’s all a culvert. The combination of the pipe, walls and roadway make it a culvert. A bridge would stand above the creek without the pipes and walls. 🤓
@zennonuc@CityofSantaCruz@RyanMeckel Great work advocating for multi modal transportation and housing. Looking forward to seeing what you do next and don’t forget about us in Santa Cruz.
@LukeBornheimer@WarrenJWells Based on the cutouts thru the median buffer I’d guess needing to save on drainage relocation could factor in too. Would be nice to see beveled cubs against the bikeway but that 6” gutter pan is a nice touch.
@TomBertulis @jerryschippa @apbp@pkoonce@itsuyen We squeezed a lot in a little space! The ID was about 65’. The spandex cyclists didn’t love it, but the novice cyclists were observed using the crossings like peds. Generally vehicles yielded to bikes but it’s an odd gray area in vehicle code. Would do again!
@bontrager_keith@LookoutSCruz@TopherJNeely Also curious why the “speed and heft” of automobiles, vehicles that are measurably more dangerous to kids, are not the subject of the article. Streetsblog offers some local options: https://t.co/Klp1WDTjwU
@brianrmcguire@prinzrob The Urban Bikeway Design Guide references “raised medians is other barriers”. Also Design Information Bulletin 89 from Caltrans references “physical barriers”. Finding a curb that contrasts with the asphalt, is placed within the striping, and is bigger could help too.
