Interesting talk by @JayasreeKIyer’s @AtMIndex earlier today at the World EPA Congress about healthcare inequity and the responsibility pharmaceutical companies should take in securing access to (essential) medicines across the globe. #EPAconf

It was a pleasure to be talking today at @OUCRU_Programme's Careers in Science event as one of the invited speakers. Thanks for the invite @drleighannjones; I am sure that everyone left today's session inspired about a career in industry.
Happy World #OneHealth day! 🐘

As a typical feature of cholera outbreaks, most of the current outbreaks are associated with displaced populations either following natural disaster (floods in Nigeria & Pakistan) or violence (Haiti, Somalian refugees in displacement camps in Kenya, and Syria).
#Cholera outbreaks are ongoing in Syria, Haiti, Pakistan, Kenya, and Nigeria. This has led to such a high demand of #vaccines that the WHO has suspended the recommended 2-dose regimen and has switched to a single-shot regimen. A unique decision.
📣 New policy brief! As part of OHT's work as a WHO Collaborating Centre on Antimicrobial Resistance, OHT and @WHO researchers published on the implemention Malawi's of national action plan on AMR.

Second week of classes already, and this time I am teaching! It’s been very fun teaching the important topics of infectious diseases and one health together with @max_vanwijk at @ParamiUni
Another great work by @somaticsoe and colleagues on two Acinetobacter baumannnii #outbreaks at a veterinary ICU. Interesting to read the significant, and commonly forgotten, value of whole genome sequencing on outbreak #epidemiology. Read more: https://t.co/ulA8iwZ1vD
All 3 vaccines assessed did sufficiently protect against fatalities: "From July to October 2021, VE-D for age 65 years was 73.0% for Janssen, 81.5% for Moderna, and 84.3% for Pfizer-BioNTech".
Recent Science report shows a dramatic decline in vaccine effectiveness among 780,225 US veterans. The protective effect of J&J against infection even declined to a worrying 13% within 6 months. Time for a #booster for J&J recipients?

"From February to October 2021, VE-I (vaccine effectiveness against infection) declined from 87.9% to 48.1%, and the decline was greatest for the Janssen vaccine resulting in a VE-I of 13.1%".
My very first first-author paper got published last year in @PLOSONE. Climate change and infectious diseases are intertwined and many people are unfortunately not aware of this. Hope that #COP26 is aware of the effect of #ClimateChange on #PublicHealth.
