When the sky starts to disappear, you know things are bad. 🌪️ As The Lost Bus navigates away from the smoke plume, it’s caught in traffic on a narrow road surrounded by trees. Full CG background extensions were created to bring the distance closer, with digital trees created using Speedtree added along the sides of the road, swaying towards the vehicle to enhance the increasing sense of claustrophobia. Quand le ciel commence à disparaître, c’est que la situation devient critique. 🌪️ Alors que The Lost Bus tente de s’éloigner du panache de fumée, le bus se retrouve pris dans les embouteillages sur une route étroite, bordée d’arbres. Des extensions d’arrière-plans entièrement en images de synthèse ont été créées afin de rapprocher l’horizon, tandis que des arbres numériques, générés avec SpeedTree, ont été ajoutés de part et d’autre de la route. Leur mouvement vers le véhicule accentue la sensation grandissante de claustrophobie. Plusieurs couches de braises et de fumée ont également été intégrées aux plans, éclairées de manière réaliste par les phares du bus. Smoke changes everything. 🔥🌪️
Subtle, environmental VFX were as important as the large smoke plumes in The Lost Bus. In sequences where Kevin’s bus drives through towns as he nears the fire, a sense of the strong, dangerous wind and its impact needed to be created. Anything in the original footage which would have been caught by the wind needed to be removed then recreated digitally and animated using wind simulations. Dans The Lost Bus, les effets visuels environnementaux subtils étaient tout aussi essentiels que les immenses panaches de fumée. Dans les séquences où le bus de Kevin traverse les villes en se rapprochant de l’incendie, il fallait transmettre la force et le danger du vent, ainsi que son impact sur l’environnement.
Tout élément du tournage original susceptible d’être emporté par le vent a dû être supprimé, puis recréé numériquement et animé à l’aide de simulations de vent. Des véhicules en images de synthèse, ainsi que de la poussière et des débris, ont également été ajoutés afin de créer une sensation de panique crédible.
