The last time we were home to a WNBA team (Detroit Shock) we ranked top five in attendance for five straight seasons, No. 1 in attendance for three straight seasons and set a single-game attendance record of 22,076 fans at Game 3 of the 2003 WNBA Finals.
Additionally more than 775,000 people were excited to come to Detroit for the 2024 NFL draft. Detroit is a sports town. We’re sure we’ll see the same excitement for the WNBA returning.
I disagree. The Shock has an incredible history. Only team in pro sports history to go from last place to winning a WNBA title the next season. Won 3 titles in a 6 year period. They deserve to have that history remembered. Detroiters loved the Shock.
They need the name.
It is just so incredibly meaningful that Detroit is getting its WNBA team back. This is not only continuing the momentum of Detroit’s overall resurgence, but it will allow the Shock to take its rightful place and continue a proud tradition. The Shock is the most disrespected dynasty in WNBA history (yeah I said it). This is absolutely HUGE.
There are two technical problems in web hosting: how to serve templated content at scale, and how to minimize programmer boredom. The first was solved decades ago, but the second continues to tax the limits of our hardware.
Yeah no. Most of us outside a certain clique don't insist on putting plucked-out-of-the-air probabilities on eminently unquantifiable things like existential risk. In fact, what's happened in EA/x-risk circles is the perfect cautionary tale of the perils of this way of thinking.
The view that LLMs are powerful/capable isn't wrong, necessarily. But it is a perspective that, whatever your individual positionality, aligns you w some of the most powerful corps on earth.

The only rational move is to ignore all such pronouncements, much like you should have ignored all such pronouncements in 2021 and 2022.
News worth paying attention to is not deliberately formulated to induce strong (negative) emotional responses.
People in tech characterize this as "LLMs make factual errors", but that's a misleading framing, implying that LLMs have a model of what they say and this model is sometimes wrong.
For a LLM there is no difference between saying something true, something false, or pure nonsense.
It's not like these AI systems are some deep unknowable mystery, and that we have to uncritically accept quasi-mystical pronouncements about them... you can literally just interact with them and see what you get.
Really excited share our research lead @AliMortell's great interview about her job and the work we're doing to democratize access to testing and data-driven comms within the progressive movement!

Super excited to finally share the new project I’ve been working to spin up this year with OpenLabs, co-led by myself and @jpstinebr, to democratize access to accurate measurement to help progressive organizations make important strategic decisions: https://t.co/jzY3lR6yyI
