@Dorianlynskey The situation is more complex. The runoff was not left vs right, it was “mass corruption” vs “complete lunatic”. Neither option good, but imo the least bad prevailed. Mass corruption in Argentina is orders of magnitude larger than in EU/UK. Thus, the change.
@mattyglesias We just released a paper modeling the supply chain impact of the supply-side lockdown (not peer reviewed yet, due to timeline). Results suggest that the effect of the lockdown pales in comparison to the demand collapse! https://t.co/fJOSy8s4xQ
@WhatTheBit I used to work with refurb cameras, you never know for sure but a large percentage (I’d say 50% for new models) were like new returns. It was just test, clean, and a new box. For the rest, either put new parts or use for parts.
@romanmars Such a PowerPoint exists!! (or will soon) I’m doing research on how nano-, convenience-stores, and supermarkets evolve in neighborhoods. Super relevant issue specially in megacities (Mexico, bogota, Beijing, etc). Some friends and colleagues are deep into this topic.
@GingerWildheart I ordered your latest last week and I’ve been listening non stop. Just wanted to say thank you for all the music you’ve given us. It makes the world a little bit better :)
@doctorwhy@DrHowardGardner To be fair, its followed by: “Conversely, if we take you on as a student and you complete the requirements successfully, we commit to providing a job which makes use of your talents.”
But yes, as a ‘solution’ to the problems of academia, it’s scary and borderline ridiculous.
@doctorwhy @drstaceyf @IF91@eawilloughby@drlambchop@MelTakarangi@JeffreyLFoster Work-life balance, plus “intangibles” such as not worrying about healthcare and (children) education costs are what we are currently using in Europe to lure American faculty (and new graduates). It’s not perfect here, but from what I see w/colleagues the difference is enormous.
@johnroderick hi John. Sorry I don’t engage more. I like to think I’m not eavesdropping, but that I’m kind of part of the conversation. In a weird way. Love all the great shows!
@AllusionistShow Grew up in bs as, not a pastry historian in any way but ate my share :) The article seems accurate. The names are irreverent but we don’t really think about It.
