Engineering Night #2 at Dust 🛠️
This Wednesday we hosted the second edition of our Engineering Night series – an evening of technical deep-dives and meaningful connections. The energy was electric; and our courtyard buzzed with conversations that latest well into the evening!
Special thanks to our speakers for sharing their expertise:
- @eliebakouch from @huggingface walked us through the intricacies of LLMs pre-training
- @glemaitre58 from @probabl_ai demonstrated the potential and limitations of AI agents in Data Science
- @henryfontanier from @DustHQ showed how we leverage LLMs to control our front-end
We're already working on the next edition, stay tuned!

it took @m4th1ld, @maximetrap and I, 4 weeks in San Francisco to gather 35 people to get a uniquely designed label with a chip inside sewn on their denim by local tailors; generating 200 taps during the night -playing a ‘tap them all’ game- which triggered 1,300 notifications total. Let’s unpack La Premiere @withobjet.
bits we heard during the evening: “i don’t think i ever got excited on a physical quest since @PokemonGoApp" 🌟 ”i was caught in deep, interesting discussion like i never had in SF before” ✨ the AI-event ratio on @LumaHQ SF feed probably helped us here [thanks for the shout-out btw, also thanks for sharing @michelleefang].
the people, it’s always about the people. first the tailors, Audrey and Stella, who really brought their best energy all night long and connected with everyone -and made some magic on garments.
the dj @n0rizkitty who performed live for the first time [definitely not the last].
the poet @valecalore who read a wonderful poem she wrote for the occasion.
the photographers: Sushmit brought some old @Polaroid cameras for everyone to play with, @jmariwyatt made some great portraits, @erickd too.
roadies @kpaxle and @davegorum who came crashed home a few days prior to the events and helped us keep the faith all the way through -the psychological rollercoaster of entrepreneurship in general [events in particular] would defo deserve its own post.
thanks for coming, playing and laughing @giansegato@clinamenic [congrats on the limoncello], @AnnicaBenning, @psinghal8, @aleq305 and y'all who're not on this platform. also for supporting us @gyllanderjenny@MartynStrydom -next time will be even greater, no doubt.
thanks The Mellow SF for the venue. being surrounded by plants defo added something special.
so what’s next?
we’re printing a zine. and when tapped, it’ll redirect to a secret /events page where you could download all the pics, the digital version of the zine, listen to the playlist, discover @valecalore piece of AI-art attached to her poem and more.
if you’re in SF and want to grab a copy, just hit me up.
more soirées are coming in Q4. and we're raising money to ramp this up weekly.
what about a ritual? friday nights where we imbue our objects with collective memories [cc @noampomsky]; where we turn some of them into personal artefacts [cc @startingfromnix]; where we just connect with each other.
of course we’re building more than a series of soirées. we’re on a mission [sic] to reconcile conviviality and loving our objects longer. we’re a group of “NEW CONSUMERS” bonding together, offline and online, for the years, decades and centuries to come. life is for connections and meaning.
love you SF ❤️🌁
@github Nice timing, we just open sourced https://t.co/rATbE1bBLg 🛹 to bring people to contribute to the largest skate spots and content history database for skaters.
playing with the newest Arc feature from @browsercompany -- like imagining a world where we regain control over our desires, and shop accordingly @withobjet -- so Amazon gets cleaner, and calmer. no fuss. you hop on is b/c you know what you want. by @maximetrap
@hursh@browsercompany Super excited seeing people doing desktop cross-platform with something other than Electron! Look forward to the toolchain you release, if I can develop apps without Xcode I'll be a happy dev
@k7vin@adrienjoly Indeed!
@pmoe@k7vin@missionworkshop Hell yeah! Haven't had mine for as long (5 years only) but I still use it almost everyday and take it everywhere (skiing included). Feel like it hasn't move. Happy to see it endure the test of time easily https://t.co/gqrcKiNKj0
@dieworkwear Bought my Mission Workshop backpack more than 4 years ago https://t.co/gqrcKiNKj0 (~$230), I love it! I use it almost everyday, go on weekends with it, even went snowboarding. Doesn't seem to age. Get a lot of compliment from it as its modular system intrigue people.
What’s our relationship to objects? This is our mindset & approach when we enter any discussion @withobjet. We? @m4th1ld@maximetrap and I. and because we had many fascinating chats, we decided to write more extensively.
