datacenters are the new nuclear power. we're going to make it really difficult to build them for no reason at all and it will just make things more expensive and hurt domestic industry and people will celebrate it as some huge victory
JUST IN: U.S. electricians union leader calls for more data centers, arguing the AI infrastructure boom is creating a “generational” opportunity for blue-collar workers.
Companies should be allowed to build datacenters, because it should be legal by default to build most things you'd want on private property.
The mistake is in allowing a debate at all. Once you've allowed the debate, the anti-datacenter people's case is as good as anybody's.
Americans literally support building COAL POWER PLANTS near their homes at SIGNIFICANTLY higher rates than building an AI data center.
There's no explanation for this other than misinformation- and media-fueled moral panic.
The anti-data center stuff is insane and clear evidence that we have entered a post-truth era where many people can be convinced, often by malicious actors, to abandon reality and allow conspiracies/falsehoods to drive policy preferences.
Very disappointing from someone I thought highly of.
I might become a single issue voter, b/c whether you support or oppose data centers nicely encapsulates your general intelligence & political courage & likely correlates with support for other wise policies.
fighting antisemitism by spying on random people and snitching on them for using bad words in their private communication
This is repulsive & counter-productive. These guys need to apologize, delete, and touch grass.
