@Medtronic @MDT_Diabetes Your distribution system in Mumbai India, is a colossal failure. For such critical services you need to maintain better standards. We have not been able to get sensors for your Guardian Connect device in past 2 months.
If the value of product managers diminishes in the next decade, the biggest reason for it will be that over the past decade many (most?) PM interview processes stopped testing PM candidates for creativity and started rewarding them for regurgitating frameworks.
It’s way worse actually. This doesn’t justify how bad it is. Seems like the trick to get votes by distributing money as shown in the movie, has worked in real life. Pathetic Movie! 👎
Are we allowed to say non-good things about Jawaan? If yes, then honestly, what on earth. It's a standard Tamil film? Or Money Heist? Have people not seen those? Good on SRK, so happy for his success. And good message. But film's not worth the hysteria reviewers are on about!
Product Management is not about:
- Asking customers about the requirements
- Writing detailed specifications
- Creating prototypes and wireframes
- Assigning tasks to developers
- Verifying and accepting the work of others
- Obsessing over velocity, deadlines, and roadmaps
- Mastering Scrum to perfection
- Acting like the CEO of the product
Anyone can do that.
It's about:
- Understanding customer's problems, needs, and desires
- Understanding the market and the business in depth
- Collaborating closely with engineers and designers
- Identifying opportunities, ideating solutions, and tackling the risks together
- Marrying customer goals and business goals
- Influencing others to work toward the common goal
- Being humble (it's ok not to be the smartest person in the room)
- Experimenting to validate assumptions
- Leading without authority
- Turning chaos into clarity
Start with these questions:
- Why are we building this thing?
- Why are we building it now?
- For whom are we building it?
- What's the unique value of our product?
- How is it aligned with the company's vision?
- How is it aligned with the business strategy?
- What does success look like? How can we measure it?
- What are the customer needs/jobs (functional, emotional, social)?
- How will it affect our customers and users?
- How will it create value for the business?
- Can we buy it instead of building it?
- How can we make sure that our customers would love it?
- Will our customers know how to use it?
- Can our business support it (e.g., legal, finances)?
- Is it feasible? Can we build it?
- How can we bring it to the market? Do we have the required channels?
- Should we do it at all? Are there any ethical considerations?
- What are the riskiest assumptions? How can we validate them?
- What does the data tell us?
- How can we get maximum validating learning with minimum effort?
Be curious. Learn and experiment. Question solutions and push back on things handled down.
Remember that product management is about creating a "product customers love, yet also works for our business" (Marty Cagan, Inspired), not about pleasing stakeholders.
After 9 years, I'm still learning daily, and I do not know everything, but I can give you my perspective on any questions you have.
Drop them below.
Clear pattern emerging on Indian airlines especially @airvistara & @IndiGo6E .. when they don’t have enough load on a flight, they cancel last minute with impunity & without giving any reasons and combine with an earlier or later flight and call it ‘rescheduling’ … Pls RT so @DGCAIndia takes note and saves passengers, especially senior citizens, from inconvenience & stress
Thus, it has become increasingly important to take 15 minutes out & think about what YOU would want to proactively do, to drive progress on your objectives both personal and career wise. Then prioritise them.
1/2- Most of the things we spend time on (mentally & physically) through the day are reactions to some external trigger. These triggers have exponentially increased with social media & notification cues designed by product managers (like me) to drive engagement on their platform
People say it’s impossible to perceive time dilation on low relativistic speeds, but somehow I observe it everyday on the treadmill where I know, I have run for longer duration than the dial shows! 🥺🏃♂️
@FURLENCO@FurlencoSupport - Guys why have you put force update condition on your app without a new update available on app store for iOS? It’s stuck in loop. 🤔
While we are talking about making India the biggest digital economy in the world, it would really help if the govt walk the talk or is this also some kind of Jumla! 😐
Is it just us, or are the trains on digital payment rails so innovatively envisioned by @NPCI_NPCI going off track? While @RBI has taken @HDFC_Bank to task, not sure penal provisions are sufficient. @TheOfficialSBI@ICICIBank all seem to regularly struggle. Solution?
@JioMart_Support : service request number 6013572929. It’s been more than 3 months, I have written 38 emails and called 100s times. Please refund my money. You even send me emails saying my query has been resolved. I haven’t received any refund yet. Please respond!
@Uber_India@Uber_Support I just took a ride in Pune. My driver was extremely rude and made me feel unsafe. He didn’t drop me at my location but drove speedily through my stop and left me stranded. Then he forced me to get the hell out of his car. Please take action against him!
Here is an amazing read about the work and design culture at @koinexindia. People usually don't understand the need and importance of design team in a start up, until you work with one as inspirational as we have here. Keep up the good work @theShreyaSaxena,@Sandeshkhot24
"There’s this balance between collaboration and creative freedom that’s very difficult to find elsewhere." says our amazing UI Designer @theShreyaSaxena as she shares her journey with #Koinex. ⚡️
