Ito ang inihayag ng dating chairperson ng National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) na si Prof. Emeritus Maria Serena I. Diokno sa kanyang talumpati sa 116th Commencement Exercises ng University of the Philippines (UP)–Manila noong Hulyo 22.

Hinimok niya ang mga graduates na isabuhay ang ideals ng UP na ‘honor, excellence, at service’ hindi lamang sa salita kundi pati sa gawa.

“Honor is not built into the position. We all know that appointments and elections to office do not always yield the best or the most appropriately able. So the position does not confer honor, you bring honor to the position, not the other way around,” saad ni Prof. Diokno.
