If your child becomes a reader, about 80% of the education job is already done. That's my honest assessment after working in education for over thirty years. Everything else is secondary. Most parents think science education is important. Yes it is. But if you can't read the biology textbook, you're not going to learn biology.
Reading is the meta-skill that enables all other skills. History requires reading. Science requires reading. Even math increasingly requires reading as it becomes more sophisticated. The child who reads voraciously will figure out everything else. The child who doesn't will struggle with everything.
Encyclopædia Britannica will continue to use ‘Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons:
-We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S.
-The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous.

@ClintFiore @DTSpann That's what we did. When DS was 17 he drove a beater car. He needed something more reliable at 18, and I needed a new car, so he got my old one. Then DD needed one, DS bought himself a truck, with help from DH and grandparents, and DD drives the old car.
@leslieebersole @Waldent99 @GuyTalksFinance YES!!!! It was way more stressful to take my kids out to something, and have to watch them all night, than it was to get a babysitter. I wanted to have a night out and enjoy to wedding/party/whatever.
@DuckieLouise I'm very thankful that when flying with mine when they were little and crying, or restless, I've had support from my fellow passengers who were strangers. I try to repay that kindness to families flying with littles now that mine are 18 and 19.
@clhubes one day my kids said to me "you forgot to ask who we sat with at lunch today" and I realized that sitting and talking was making an impact. Its fallen a bit with sports, jobs, but we do it when we can.
@ZoeYorkWrites I'm a school librarian, MG girls are asking for new adult/adult romance books that aren't appropriate for a school library. Teacher says to me "it looks fine, have you read it?" Yes, and trust me, we don't want phone calls from parents. Enough with cartoon covers
Me after checking on Twitter that Meta is just down and I'm not hacked since my Instagram isn’t loading and my Facebook got "session logged out”. 😂 #facebookdown#instagramdown#meta
@OliviasAuntieCA @ophicialrex@kirawontmiss The problem is the kid wasn't following the rules and the parents didn't stop him. He wasn't on the railing, 1st issue, then he tried stepping on the monkey. Had he been on the railing there might not have been an incident. So parents are failing him.
@piper4missouri Evangelicals use their alleged Christianity to try to cover over the fact that they are mostly selfish, close-minded, reactionary, judgmental bigots & jerks. They think if you put a fish magnet or cross decal on your car, you have license to do whatever you feel like.
As of today, Canada’s new suicide crisis and emotional distress helpline is available across the country. If you need help or know someone who does, you can reach out to 9-8-8 by phone and text, in English and French, at any time of day and any day of the week.
mispronouncing a kid’s name during the biggest moment of his life isn’t cute and funny no matter whether the GM or a handsome player did it lol it sucks and the kids deserve to have their names said correctly it’s not difficult to prep
@itsginnydi I'm a school librarian and just hooked my DD up with Libby because she's graduating and will lose school access to Sora (Libby equivalent). She's thrilled to have ready access when she's off to a new school next year!
@MaebyKate@ask_aubry I'm married but my nale cat who we rescued out of a barn and must have Ragdoll in him is super chill. Took him to school/work and he was a hit with everyone.
TIP: If a friend ever says they have a chocolate lab, do not get your hopes up when you are going to their house because they are just talking about a dog
