@theRealYLH You going under the knife was quite a moment for intelligent folks who unanimously wished you well. I must admit that post ops, you've turned out to be a degenerate in almost every aspect. As Munger would say, perhaps due to the incentive of access that estab. uses well. Jerk.

..."every missed chance in life was an opportunity to behave well, every missed chance in life was an opportunity to learn something, and that your duty was not to be submerged in self-pity, but to utilize the terrible blow in constructive fashion"
just a fantastic paragraph from Munger & Epictetus -- sums up the vast majority of what you need to not only navigate hardship and adversity throughout life, but emerge from it STRONGER. 🎯🎯🎯
Munger: “Life will have terrible blows in it, horrible blows, unfair blows. And some people recover and others don’t. And there I think the attitude of Epictetus is the best. He said that every missed chance in life was an opportunity to behave well, every missed chance in life was an opportunity to learn something, and that your duty was not to be submerged in self-pity, but to utilize the terrible blow in constructive fashion."
Seneca has a lot of great bars but one that you can use forever, is the maxim in this paragraph on natural desires vs. unlimited desires (Letter 16)
Basically,
>Natural desires have limits
>Unnatural desires has no limits and will never leave you satisfied or fulfilled
Epicurus divides them as: “If you live according to nature, you will never be poor; if you live according to opinion, you will never be rich."
My interpretation of the latter category (unnatural/opinion) is that it's anything which can be counted: money, followers, all material possessions, along with things like fame or status, there's probably other examples.
There is no limit to any of these and thus there is no fulfillment. If you have been alive for more than 24 hours you probably recognize this to be true.
Seneca: "If you find, after having travelled far, that there is a more distant goal always in view, you may be sure that this condition is contrary to nature."
All those examples listed above, you can clearly see that there is ALWAYS a more distant goal.
So you can shortcut to: if it has no limit (or is "opinion" rather than nature), it will never bring lasting fulfillment and you're wasting your time chasing it.
Here is the rest of the excerpt:

"If I know you well, you have already been trying to find out, from the very beginning of my letter, what little contribution it brings to you. Sift the letter, and you will find it. You need not wonder at any genius of mine; for as yet I am lavish only with other men’s property.—But why did I say “other men”? Whatever is well said by anyone is mine.—This also is a saying of Epicurus: “If you live according to nature, you will never be poor; if you live according to opinion, you will never be rich.”
Nature’s wants are slight; the demands of opinion are boundless. Suppose that the property of many millionaires is heaped up in your possession. Assume that fortune carries you far beyond the limits of a private income, decks you with gold, clothes you in purple, and brings you to such a degree of luxury and wealth that you can bury the earth under your marble floors; that you may not only possess, but tread upon, riches. Add statues, paintings, and and whatever any art has devised for the satisfaction of luxury; you will only learn from such things to crave still greater.
Natural desires are limited; but those which spring from false opinion can have no stopping-point. The false has no limits. When you are travelling on a road, there must be an end; but when astray, your wanderings are limitless. Recall your steps, therefore, from idle things, and when you would know whether that which you seek is based upon a natural or upon a misleading desire, consider whether it can stop at any definite point. If you find, after having travelled far, that there is a more distant goal always in view, you may be sure that this condition is contrary to nature. Farewell."

I have found this all to be true and would recommend you test it relative to your own lived experience, before you set some stupid goal like "I'll be happy if I have 1M followers" (you won't) or some job title (same) or whatever the fuck people chase after these days.

"how can I become a better writer"
some ideas:
>Seneca was banished into exile for 8 years on Corsica
>Dante was banished into exile for 19 years, he began writing the Divine Comedy after five years and continued until his death
>Machiavelli was imprisoned, tortured, and THEN banished into exile, which is where he wrote The Prince
>Cervantes, after living in captivity as a slave in Algiers, was thrown into prison and began writing Don Quixote
>Dostoevsky was about to be executed, but instead was banished into Siberian exile for four years
>Victor Hugo was banished into exile, where he wrote Les Miserables
>Mandela was imprisoned on Robben Island for 27 years, where he wrote Long Walk to Freedom
>Oscar Wilde was jailed, then imprisoned at Reading Gaol where he wrote De Profundis
>Solzhenitsyn was banished into exile in Siberia, writing the Gulag Archipelago
I asked grok and it said "you could also just go get a degree in English Lit from NYU or Vassar" or a bunch of other dumb ass schools
But if I was looking for the tried-and-true path to writing a great book, I'd probably just go with getting banished into exile.
Michael Bloomberg carried four drinks to Merrill Lynch for nearly a year. They still almost rejected him.
Two coffees and two teas, one of each with milk.
He'd walk into their offices at 6:30 or 7 a.m.
“I only drink tea.”
“Ah, I have tea for you.”
Pause at 1:21. Nearly a year in, they were about to turn him down. Listen to the terms he proposes.
Before your next pitch, give the buyer a way to try it without being locked in.
@stealthychad@Amraam498 No. It was a deadend as CPEC & a volatile KPK would have caught up much sooner. It was PTI that provided comfort & gave insurance of ideology to masses in aregion dogged by conflict. What you see now (Munir running with Sharif face) would have come much earlier around 2019-2020.
@Kelarepublic47@Davidlit3 He thinks it gives him leverage eventually as restoring PTI rule can also be a chip for negotiations. What a fucked up country ruled by a fucked maniac. No interal thought among faujis, cursed group of lowly men in khaki.

Indian clout and ingress into American economy gets officially nuked by Uncle Sam. The visa suspensions, trade tarrifs, coercion over oil price and supplies are different prongs of the same strategy. Uncle Sam is tightening the screws of Narendra Modi and about to dump him!
