🔳After more than 18 months in detention without charge or trial, the israeli mission to the United Nations in Geneva claims the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital is being held under medical supervision, undergoing regular examinations and is “not in danger to his life.” It also repeats allegations that he is affiliated with Hamas, while continuing to provide no publicly tested evidence in an open court.

🔳The statement comes after weeks of mounting pressure from the United Nations, medical organisations and human rights groups following reports from Dr Abu Safiya’s lawyer describing severe weight loss, physical injuries and a dramatic deterioration in his condition.

🔳Dr Hussam Abu Safiya has never been convicted of any offence. He remains imprisoned without charge, without trial and without the opportunity to challenge the allegations against him before an independent court.

The world has seen this before. Dr Adnan Al-Bursh also was murdered in israeli custody after months of detention without trial. To this day, there has been no transparent public accountability for his death.

🔳A government statement is not a substitute for due process. If there is evidence, present it before a court. Until then, the continued detention of a doctor without charge or trial raises profound legal and moral questions that cannot simply be dismissed by official assurances about his health.

Amidst all the hardship, something beautiful has happened: I am about to get married. I am not asking for wedding help, but would like to ask for help in starting our life.
