For the first time since 1970, we ended the month of May with just 8 homicides, the first single-digit May homicide total recorded in more than five decades.
While one life lost is still one too many, this milestone reflects the progress Baltimore is making and the lives being saved across our city.
This isn't luck, it is the result of intentional work across BPD, prosecutors, and our violence prevention ecosystem.

Please see my statement on the arrest of Safe Streets worker Antoine Burton. We will continue to hold our Safe Streets teams to the highest standards for conduct, and they will continue their lifesaving work to prevent violence and uplift our communities.
Despite historic progress, we continue to lose far too many residents to gun violence here in Baltimore and across the country. These are families that will never again be whole, young people who will never get the chance to grow into their best selves, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, friends and family.
This National Gun Violence Awareness Day we stand together against violence in our communities and recommit ourselves to the work of advancing public safety across our neighborhoods.
It is shameful that the Trump Administration is—yet again—attempting to strip health care coverage for millions of working people, including many here in Baltimore.
Quality health care should be a basic right for every citizen, and we will continue to fight against any attempt to slash lifesaving benefits under the ACA.
The Trump-Vance admin’s new policy is an attack on Americans’ healthcare that would deny coverage to millions, increase insurance premiums, and raise out-of-pocket costs.
We’ve won in court before, and we’ll do it again to protect access to affordable healthcare.
Black Fathers despite the rumors are more involved with their kids than their counterparts. Black Baltimore fathers have another level of fatherhood swag and this event is a place for us to display that and fellowship with each other.

At Baer, students celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by researching a country of their choice, creating informational posters, and in some cases wearing traditional clothing representing the country they studied. The activity gave students an opportunity to learn more about different cultures, histories, and traditions from across Asia and the Pacific Islands.
Since I took office in 2020, we have made record investments into Baltimore City Public Schools, and we aren’t stopping.
This FY27 Budget continues our commitment to @BaltCitySchools under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future because every student deserves the support and resources that they need to reach their full potential.
Baltimore we hear you. @BmoreCityDOT Director McBeth is here to share how this budget invests in repairing our roads, sidewalks, and tackling potholes across Baltimore.
For years, too many of our recreation facilities and pools were disinvested in. Now, we’ve changed that.
And with this budget we are going to continue to make historic investments into modernizing facilities across Baltimore.
This month and every month, we celebrate the culture and the contributions of our Immigrant communities that have helped to shape our great city.
Happy #ImmigrantHeritageMonth, Baltimore!

Today, Assistant Deputy Mayor for Operations Graham Young and DOT Director Veronica P. McBeth were joined by Waterfront Partnership President Dan Taylor and representatives from Transdev to celebrate the milestone.
New research: Baltimore's Safe Streets program is associated with a 42% drop in youth homicides and 21% fewer nonfatal youth shootings.
It's the first study to examine community violence intervention programs specifically for youth violence impacts. 🔗https://t.co/l6SSA9HVgL
Mr. Grant has been helping to keep Baltimore’s streets clean for over 50 years. This budget ensures that Mr. Grant and all of our @BaltimoreDPW crews have modernized fleet and the tools that they need to get the job done on every block in Baltimore.
