Newly uncovered Facebook photos posted by Ilhan Omar’s brother, Mohamed Nur “Dhay-Lule” (nicknamed Milkshake), who resides in London, show him posing in Moscow during the 1990s, the exact period Omar has repeatedly claimed her family spent in a Kenyan refugee camp with her father and six siblings. Her sister Leila Elmi even commented on the images, “Old memories… hahaha it was like yesterday,” confirming the family’s presence in Russia after leaving Kenya and before later appearing in the UK and United States. Far from destitute refugees, the brother appears well dressed in what looks like designer clothing, undercutting the entire hardship narrative Omar has used for years to build her political brand.
