The Implication of Burying a Corpse in a Home (Nigeria)
1/8
It may sound hard to believe, but this is a Nigerian law. 😳
Most people don’t know that even if the deceased is your family member, you do not have the automatic right to carry the corpse home and bury them.
Let me share this practice tip with us.
As a Criminal Defence Lawyer, when cross-examining a witness, always focus on the ingredients of the offence.
All offences captured in our laws have ingredients. These ingredients could be easily gleaned from the laws or from case books (Law Reports). In most cases, these ingredients are conjunctive and not disjunctive. That means, where one is not proved, the Defendant will be discharged and acquitted.
Understanding the ingredients will help your cross-examination questions. It protects you from shooting amiss and ensures you are within the relevant range that will help you destroy the case of the prosecution.
When you understand this, it activates your mind to capture defects in a witness testimony and in most cases, the IPO's Investigation Report.
I suggest you add this to what you will learn from other trusted hands in criminal litigation.
You are welcome.🙏
For proper context, this girl saw her Bar Final Result last month. She uploaded a screenshot of her result on the 17th of April, 2026. So I don’t know why she added Esq to her name.
That said, for someone who has not yet been called to the Bar, has never conducted a trial, or even moved an application in court, it is very wrong for her to make such a tweet. She probably watched the proceedings of a few lawyers in a particular court and concluded that “most lawyers lack the skill of cross-examining witnesses”
Her tweet is disrespectful, not only to a few lawyers, but to the legal profession at large. For someone to confidently tweet that most lawyers in Nigeria lack cross-examination skills is quite disturbing. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she used the word “most” ignorantly. The use of the word “most” suggests a majority — perhaps at least 60-70% of lawyers conducting trials in Nigeria. I hope non-lawyers understand why many lawyers are offended by the tweet.
It is simply a wrong thing to say. Indirectly, she insulted lawyers across the country, and this is made worse by the fact that her conclusion was flawed. Lawyers have different techniques and approaches to conducting trials. Every lawyer adopts a style that best suits the facts and strategy of their case. The fact that a lawyer uses a technique unfamiliar to you does not make that lawyer incompetent.
More importantly, if anyone were to make such a sweeping statement, should it come from someone who is not even a lawyer yet? How exactly did she arrive at such a conclusion? A Bar aspirant should be focused on learning, observing experienced seniors, and growing within the profession.
If you know Rita, please tell her that this is not a good way to start her career. She should try to conduct herself properly. The legal profession is built on respect, humility, and continuous learning. Seek guidance when confused, learn from seniors, and be mindful of your choice of words, henceforth.
Thank you.

Every second that ticks brings you closer to death.
Those are moments you can never recover again, strive to be caught in acts worthy of your existence.
Being an amputee is not an easy life, I can't wish it on anyone. The pain, the fear, the uncertainty… every single step requires extra effort and strength.
Disability is not like a sickness that goes away. It is a forever scar you learn to live with.
Sometimes I sit and ask myself over and over again.
What is my crime?
I’ve asked this question a million times, yet I still have no answers.
One minute you are close to the finish line… the next minute everything becomes uncertain.
It’s heartbreaking that after 6 years of struggle… days of hunger, and years of mental and emotional breakdown in the university while chasing a dream and purpose, my journey suddenly changed because of an accident just two months before my NYSC POP.
My sister had another session of chemotherapy. it’s not easy watching her go through this, but she’s still fighting.
Please keep donating and sharing her story. We still need help to continue her treatment and we need N9.6M for her treatment.

24th January 2022. A day I can never forget.
I went to eat at Buka Hut at gbagada, just to treat myself and have a good day.
Halfway through, my PERIOD came unexpectedly… and I had no pad, no backup, nothing.
I didn’t even know.
After eating, I decided to get ice Cream, because why not spoil myself a little more?
As I stood up, I noticed people staring… but I didn’t understand why. It wasn’t until I got to the ice cream stand that a guy walked up to me quietly and said: “Excuse me… your backside is stained. Please, take my jacket to cover up.”
In that moment, I wanted the ground to open and swallow me. But his kindness… it calmed me.
No noise. No embarrassment. Just respect.
He gave me his jacket, wrapped it around me, and even offered to order me an Uber home.
I insisted on paying, but honestly, I was just grateful someone chose kindness over ridicule.
I asked how I’d return his jacket. He smiled and said, “Don’t worry about it.” But I took his number anyway…🥰
Today, that same man is my DARLING HUSBAND.😍
And funny enough, Buka Hut is still our favourite spot till today. ❤️
Sometimes, love doesn’t start with butterflies.🦋
Sometimes, it starts with kindness in your most vulnerable moment.✌🏼💖
