Before the election in Pakistan in 2024 I chaired an inquiry into the conditions for a free and fair election.

The panel was made up of eminent politicians from across the political spectrum: @DavidShoebridge @Greens, @SenPaulStrauss @TheDemocrats, @catalintenita REPER Party, and @brandonpillay1 @MYANC

After hearing evidence we determined that the conditions for a free and fair election were not in place in Pakistan and this was before the attacks on @PTIofficial supporters on election day and the repression which has followed.

The current situation in Pakistan and the severe mistreatment of #ImranKhan should come as no surprise to states around the world given the actions of the illegitimate government in seizing power and enforcing control in Pakistan.

Now is time to re-establish democracy in #Pakistan and to push for the immediate release of Imran Khan.
