So the books publishers hold up loudest, the ones they promote most, the ones most often put in a reader’s path? The ones written by white authors. Until that changes, not seeking out diverse narratives means you’re less likely to encounter them.

But I also want to flee to a tiny cottage in the north of Scotland and chop wood and make a garden and trudge through the misted highland hills until I'm so tired that when I sleep I don't even dream.
