The front page of tomorrow's @dailytarheel –
I shed many tears while typing up these heart-wrenching text messages sent and received by UNC students yesterday. Our campus was on lockdown for more than three hours.
Beyond proud of this cover and the team behind it.
There's been a lot of confusion about what happened at yesterday's Louisville Metro Police press conference, folks coming away believing the new chief imposed discipline - and even terminated people - after reviewing incidents cited in the DOJ report.
That didn't happen. 🧵
As I was getting off the plane last night, a stewardess asked what I was so excited about. I told her I'd won my election & was the first trans woman elected in Montana.
She immediately teared up. "My son is trans," she said, & began to tell me about all the joys/fears... [1/3]
@RevChrisDavis True story: When I was five I saw this print in the church which was serving as a polling place during the 1988 election. Upon seeing it I asked them *very* loudly if that was, in fact, Michael Dukakis.

A remarkable anecdote shared by @GovAndyBeshear during his press conference: he said he got a call from Mayfield Mayor Kathy O’ Nan — the western KY town devastated by a December tornado. Beshear said Mayfield’s fire chief is taking an ambulance to eastern KY to help people there
N.B. for those who made this assignment: God made those queer kids just the way God wanted to make them. And I recall one Jesus of Nazareth noting that when you welcome them, you welcome him. He was not as gracious with those who put stumbling blocks in their way (cf. Mt 18:5-7).
Modern day education assignment at Christian Academy of Louisville. Middle school. Write a letter to your homosexual friend explaining why it’s wrong. Shameful. #stopthehate

This summer, I’m doing an independent study with Kate Sonderegger on Augustine, reading Confessions, Dr Civita Dei, De Trinitate, etc. My goal is to (1) read Augustine each day and (2) Tweet some Augustine each day. It’ll probably flop, but we’ll give it a go. Tell your friends.
You may be hearing the argument that before the rise of modern commercial infant formula, babies all ate breastmilk and everything was great. As a historian of infant feeding, let me tell you why that’s not true.
