New admin, don’t let imposter syndrome make you feel like you have to know or do it all to prove you’re a leader. Your staff doesn’t expect you to know/ do it all. Just be trustworthy, relatable, supportive, value them & have their back. Leadership is Relationship
@ballardam I take comfort in the fact that I can rarely tell when someone else is experiencing imposter syndrome. I know it's much more common than I see it so it is probably less noticeable in me...
Remember the quote we often hear for students, "when a flower doesn't bloom you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower". This is also true for administrators, teachers and staff. Never underestimate the importance of a positive culture.
Woke up this morning to some of my AP Gov kids sitting in my living room talking about judicial review & the legislative process. They snuck into my house at 4:30 am to surprise me. We had coffee and chatted. What a perfect graduation morning. My heart is full.
Everyone's like, "High-stakes standardized testing is bullshit because it doesn't help us teach the kids!" and then we often turn around and give a 100-question multiple choice exam that won't be graded until after the students are gone.
Like, those are the same thing.

“Would you just take, along with me, 10 seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are? Those who have cared about you and wanted what was best for you in life. I’ll watch the time.”
LEADERS, Never underestimate the impact you have on the culture of your school. Yes, everyone is ultimately responsible, but you are the thermostat. Support, encouragement, and appreciation set the temperature exactly where staff and students can all thrive and excel.
"Teaching to others" is a VERY effective active learning strategy. New data show teaching to an imaginary audience (camera) is superior to live audience, which = distracting. https://t.co/9a4i1evicv
My MN teacher daughter got another "opt out" letter today from the Freedom Foundation.
FF is a right wing Koch-backed union busting corporation backed by dark money.
The letter is full of drivel about personal liberty. They won't stop.
Support your union!
I'm just going to throw it out there before I do my own Googling. Is there a known correlation between high test scores on standardized tests and success later in life?

Just thought of a #WouldYouRather in the spirit of https://t.co/27IDZa72jb:
Would you rather your hair grew at a rate of a sixteenth of an inch per hour, or a sixteenth of a mile per year?
Defend your answer with math.
(Also, try it with students, and tell me how it goes)

I think I might have found a way to separate teachers in to two camps. Just ask them about wearing hats. Forget every other controversy, ask them about hats...
