@syanwar6#EDU6323 agreed! These are fantastic shifts being made. Even recently I have seen an increase in educators focusing on inquiry based learning, which is fantastic especially if student questions are about technology - leading to exploration and deeper understanding!
@D_Schryver#EDU6323 This is such a wonderful example of how useful technology can be in connecting others (even pets!) -Iโm so sorry to hear about your dad, I hope that he gets better soon!
@GingaJacob While I agree that students today are closer to digital literacy at younger ages, I think the biggest challenge remains in teaching them how to be digitally literate which includes learning how to find sources, check them, & evaluate them (along with many other skills) #EDU6323
But technology can help in making it more accessible and affordable! This is something that really fits my vision for education as I am a huge advocate for education equity (2/2) #EDU6323
#EDU6323 I enjoyed reading the NMC Report, however a portion that really stood out to me was the discussion on the Achievement Gap (I prefer to call it an Opportunity Gap). Higher Ed is very expensive and hard to attend if youโre family doesnโt have much money (1/2)
@LoebAnnie I agree with all of your points! Being a preK teacher I often try to include the names of my students and their family members/ their favorite movies and books into lessons just to keep them interested and knowing that I care about them as people #EDU6323
@Matthew_Lucas_ @BrianK34074880 @Lenworth_22 and I donโt think molding your teaching to the learning needs of your students makes the students entitled. It provides an environment where students feel they can take risks and drive their learning further. #EDU6323
@Evelyn05891014 This will likely change soon as I wrap up my graduate courses and free up some time to actively contribute to my PLN, but it hardly ever feels like an added burden. It actually feels really useful to have people I can look to in order to gain information I can trust #EDU6323 2/2
#EDU6323 Michael Weschโs video helped to remind me how important it is to know each of our students deeply. If you know what interests them then itโs easier to keep them engaged and excited 1/3
@Evelyn05891014 It depends on the relationship you have with your PLN. For example, my own PLN is one I look to for answers but hardly contribute to because I feel I am not yet able to in the capacity I would want to, however I still feel supported! #EDU6323 1/2
@JcarrollC @LaurenC42893676 Weschโs video also showed how the teacher learned from his students - in this case about video games - but the teacher as a learner and the students as a teacher is a relationship often neglected #EDU6323
@LoebAnnie @BrianK34074880 Very interesting take! Makes me wonder how we can shift education in a way that meets and supports the needs/desires of millennials instead of just managing them #EDU6323
#EDU6323 This makes me think that if a teacher is supported by a PLN, then they may be more likely to have the tools necessary / the capacity to support their students and know their students in a deeper way. Their PLN is pushing them to be a better teacher for their students 3/3
#EDU6323 Kay Oddone says that a PLN is a โcommunity of like minded individuals who might never meet in person, but which challenge, push, share, teach and support each otherโ (2015). 2/3
@Lenworth_22@MrsBondsELA Me too! I remember taking polls in college or in professional development, but liked that this week we got to think about how WE could use it in our classrooms #EDU6323
