⌛️THE WORLD'S MOST IMPORTANT SAND⌛️
This is the story of how we are all - all of us, human civilisation as we know it - TOTALLY dependent on a small town in rural America to keep the modern world turning.
It's the wild story of the world's purest, and most prized, sand

The idea that men hunt while women stay at home is at the root of many gendered assumptions about the way societies operate, but a review of the data shows this is wrong. https://t.co/IslRKOyFnA
This week's @LivEchonews column is a bit of a rant
It feels like we have now reached the grim crescendo of 13 years of disastrous Conservative rule
But it is not the architects of this destruction that are paying the price - it is us

2022 has been a lesson in never judging a book, nor a country, by its cover. At the end of February, while the city of Kharkiv was still under attack, I met 21 yo, Eugene Gromadskyi. At the time I had no idea what he, nor Ukraine, were capable of. https://t.co/V5ICbZ2bFy
1/ On energy and climate, today’s Autumn Statement was more of the same: unfair choices that will mean higher bills for families, missing the chance to create the jobs and growth we need, and failing to make Britain a clean energy superpower.
THREAD:
How many of you know what Cruella Braverman's Public Order Bill contains?
It's frankly unbelievable: legislation you might expect in Russia, Iran or Egypt. Here's a summary from my column today:
PM’s tax policy showed her to lack competence.
Her response to the crisis showed her to lack judgment.
Her firing of Kwarteng showed her to lack loyalty.
Her hiding from MPs/press showed her to lack courage.
Her failure to resign shows her to lack honour.
What’s left?
The Tripitaka Koreana - carved on 81258 woodblocks in the 13th century - is the most successful large data transfer over time yet achieved by humankind. 52 million characters of information, transmitted over nearly 8 centuries with zero data loss - an unequalled achievement. 1/
This “anti-growth coalition” thing is proper straw man lunacy. Does she *really* believe that the country is just hard working workers and lazy protestors? With nothing in between? It’s just so lazy, so obviously wrong and defamatory.
Truss says she trusts the British people to know how best to spend their money, but her solution is to incentivise those above a certain income level by offering them more and to incentivise those below it by threatening to give them less. It’s not ‘we’re all in this together.’
