There is absolutely nothing wrong with a parent deciding a certain book is not right for her child. There is a colossal problem with a parent deciding that, therefore, no child should be allowed to read that book. -Jodi Picoult
Just because you heard Jordan Peterson talk about it on a podcast for ten minutes does not mean it happens to the “radical” degree the internet claims. Talk about sensationalism.
I would love for any of these people to provide a list of all the times their kid has ACTUALLY been indoctrinated with peoples opposing political or religious beliefs in a Utah public school. I promise we don’t have the time.
The lamest thing is seeing cowards on Twitter (hiding behind fake handles) talking about how this gives parents a chance to “save their kids” from indoctrination and liberal agendas.
I love public education with my whole heart so #HB215 makes my blood boil. Taking public funds to private schools will only help kids that don’t need it.
The cool thing that is emerging from this is seeing SO MANY educators and teachers oppose a salary raise (that was tied to this lame bill) in the name of prioritizing public education.
Utah is already one of the lowest ranking states in “dollars per student”spending. So we’re going to take the little funding we have from kids that need it most? And then twist the knife by telling them they could have “chosen” differently.
The bill also doesn’t even pretend to allocate funds for students with disabilities to the degree it would need to. These are just a few examples from a long list of why many Utah students don’t actually have a “choice.”
I have a lot of kids that wake themselves up for school after their parents/guardians go to work. They get themselves together and walk to school with no assistance. They don’t have the “choice” to go to a private school miles (or more in rural areas) away.
There are SO MANY reasons why private schools are inaccessible to rural and low income students that have nothing to do with tuition costs (the bill pretends to cover other costs but would fail in practice).
Love this thought from Brad. The idea that HB215 will provide “all students and parents- regardless of their zip code, wealth, or abilities- the opportunity to learn” is so wrongfully out of touch.
A day after of the Taliban BANNED female university education, women & girls have come out on the streets of Kabul protesting against the decree.
They chant —“Either for everyone or for no one. One for all, all for one”
Amplify their voices.
As a Bishop, I’m in a unique position to play a small part in helping to strengthen trust in Church leaders. Here are specific things I’m committed to based on the listening I’ve done over the last few days.
The same lawmakers that push for “abstinence-only” sex education are also the ones just outright flabbergasted by girls not fully understanding protection or contraception. Like C’MON…
I’ll even do my best to help you empathize with some of the situations these silly girls deal with that might make them consider the options you find to be “nightmares.” Anyways feel free to reach out, I for one am hoping you run into quite a bit more free time here soon.
But hey @SenMikeLee while you’re feelin concerned for all these kids I would love to walk you through some real ways to help em. Give a lil insight into the tragic realities some kids are born into. You wanna jump in at that point or??
