The New York Times, in an effort to bring down Platner, went to Maine to interview his ex-girlfriends. When they couldn’t find one willing to make an accusation, they contacted his ex, who is a Republican, and published what she had to say without any supporting evidence. Every media outlet then repeated the same smear. He’s the only candidate this election cycle whose ex-girlfriends were interviewed. They didn’t even interview his wife, which shows how cynical the entire effort was.
