I am not surprised but deeply sad that 40 per cent of parents of disabled children have considered suicide. Lack of support, battles with authorities. Imagine if this was any other group of parents. 💜 @bphillipsonMP@CMcKinnellMP#SEND#socialcare https://t.co/45qpkBNcKJ
The Tories said the SEND system is “lose, lose, lose”.
I agree.
The difference is I’m gripping the issue. We have already restructured the Department to focus on improving inclusion in mainstream schools for children with SEND.
A long way to go, but an important start.
Important coverage @guardian exposing how unpaid carers continue to face the risk of debt and prosecution. Yet government now needs to show some mettle and address this issue of career allowance overpayments given the huge anxiety it is causing to carers.

A thread about one of the many public sector scandals going under the radar....
The DfE "safety valves" for special educational needs.
These were started in 2021 due to councils getting into deficit on school spending because demand for special needs support has risen so much.
"The closure of 10 children’s centres would involve closing the least efficient of our children’s centres where we are not quite getting the outcomes we would want" -DerbysCC These are CHILDREN'S CENTRES NOT BANKS @helenhayes_@wesstreeting@campbellclaret https://t.co/bhB3cGHZpc
When Elisa died in 2023, her family's practical support stopped almost immediately. Thousands of families across the UK don’t get the support they need because of where they live. Sign our open letter to the Prime Minister, because #ShortLivesCantWait: https://t.co/h0oHxNUvm3
Seriously ill children like Jaxson aren’t getting the care they need, because of where they live. Please help us end this postcode lottery of care by signing his dad’s letter to the Prime Minister, because #ShortLivesCantWait. https://t.co/Qopzsevf0o
Once again campaigning yields results and let’s remember…PCFs don’t/won’t campaign. Which is why they never achieve results and why I quit to become a campaigner and activist 💪🏼❤️

This is one of the most important issues facing the country but only the Lib Dems are suggesting how to fix it. Disingenuous to suggest social care crisis only impacts a handful of people, we could all need it at any point in our lives. #SEND
Betty is 7 and is deafblind. She’s left feeling isolated and without support because of the lack of respite provision. It takes a toll on Betty and limits what they can do as a family. This is all too common for disabled children across the country. https://t.co/yNUdaJ4hiW
🧵 This @LibDems campaign leaflet helpfully introduces voters to Dr Martin Rodger, ‘Bournemouth’s elections expert’ whose ‘guess is that a lot of voters will switch to Lib Dems.’
We’re always interested in election experts, so we did a little digging.
