Resisting Spirits (@UofMPress, 2019) is now available on the press website, Amazon & other retailers - in paperback, ebook, and hardback versions! (It's a pretty good read if I do say so myself) https://t.co/sSxTgD73KF
I am now an honorary member of the Dirty Sox Club (a BZN climbing institution), and one of our grad students brought me this sticker (that’s not actually Everest in the picture, but I appreciate the sentiment). We had a lovely afternoon out with 4 storied BZN climbers!
Today marks twelve (!!) years together with this chonk. She is definitely showing her age in some ways, but generally, she's the same happy, cheerful Wumbum she's been all these years.

@redderbeanpaste I hope you didn’t think I was being nasty, I really am glad you were feeling well enough to grocery shop! I know how ‘basic’ stuff can seem overwhelming.
@redderbeanpaste I’m glad you’re feeling well enough to do that. I literally check off ‘got out of bed’ or ‘survived the day’ on to-do lists these days.
Had the chance to talk with @ewong about his excellent new book, At the Edge of Empire, which is getting rave reviews @NCUSCR
He'll be coming to UC Irvine on Oct. 14, hosted by @LongInstitute -- more details soon!

@Qiao_J No, alas - I’ll be presenting in Bern at a mountaineering conference & doing a seminar for grad students in Freiburg - Paris is just for fun (@AmandaUCSC will be in Paris for an earlier workshop, so I decided to come in a few days earlier).
My favorite 2 weeks in MT are immediately after the undergrads have vacated & before the tourists show up (so, usually mid-May). It’s generally cool & rainy and quiet, and happens to be a nice time of year to admire the way the setting sun hits the Bridgers.
Our book for tomorrow in Gender & War is pretty grim reading on the whole (Roberts, What Soldiers Do) but has occasional moments of levity, such as this anecdote on the perils of cross-cultural communication.
My static had a Valentine’s glam theme today, plus we had to bring a themed macro. Here was mine:
