New episode with Jeffrey McHugh (@mchugh_jeff) on being a post-doc, running in Paris, and his opinions on St. Patrick’s Day t-shirts. Our co-hosts also discuss (and drink) the perfect Irish whiskey Manhattan https://t.co/4LdSyJaXVe
Delighted this work is out and want to say what a pleasure it was working with Eva Kreysing and the rest of @Franze_Lab. Science is always more fun when you collaborate!
Congratulations to Jeff and the great team of collaborators! We employed optical tweezers to study cell membrane tension as a response to substrate stiffness! @Franze_Lab@mchugh_jeff
Finally out: Effective cell membrane tension is independent of polyacrylamide substrate stiffness. We show that membrane tension assessed by optical tweezers is similar on soft and stiff hydrogels but higher than on glass. #fibroblasts & #neurons

Very happy to announce my work with @KeyserLab, @ALThorneywork and @GburgKurt on 3D flow field measurements outside nanopores is now available in Review of Scientific Instruments! https://t.co/bWIuZvKk1Z
Our lab just got awarded an ERC Proof of Concept grant to translate our fundamental research to find new therapies for CNS diseases. We are recruiting an engineer for this project. Contact me if interested: [email protected] https://t.co/kmZKTJsH7Z
Going forward post-pandemic, I would like to see each scholar’s H index placed on their conference badge. It’s a good metric and it saves the trouble of looking folks up. It’s not helpful for me to talk to people who hardly publish. It’s not helpful for either of us to be honest.
I keep seeing the line 'EU is having vaccine problems because it was too slow in negotiating contracts' repeated in 🇬🇧&🇺🇸 media.
I want to push back on this narrative because I think it's missing where real EU-level mistakes lie. Let's review what happened in past year (🧵1/17)
Here in Italy people started to share this figure claiming that this is the diagram of the 5G chip that has been inserted in the covid vaccine.
In reality it is the electric circuit of a guitar pedal and I believe that putting it in the covid vaccine has been an excellent idea💡
There have been 3,036 outbreaks of COVID-19 in Ireland to date.
Only 14 (0.5%) have been in pubs, restaurants and cafes.
The overwhelming majority of outbreaks (2,077 or 68%) have been in private homes.
