Marlins rookie left-hander Dontrelle Willis throws a complete game, one-hit shutout to beat the Mets 1-0.
Willis, known as the D-Train, improves his record to 6-1 on the season.
He would go on to pitch in the All-Star game and finish the regular season 14-6 with a 3.30 ERA.
Willis was also named NL Rookie of the Year and helped the Marlins win their second World Series title.
Dodgers catcher Roy Campanella sets a new National League record for catchers with his 237th career home run.
The 1957 season would be Campanella’s last in the majors, as he would suffer a career-ending spinal injury in January of 1958.
In 10 seasons in Brooklyn, “Campy” won three MVP awards, and was an eight-time All-Star.
