@swdhldr @neildevani What you’re missing is the accounts arent what youd classify as engagement bait accounts. They are media personalities and accounts people assume are arguing in good faith, just as you are doing. But they 100% are not. The next big headline comes and the cycle begins again.

Then theres a way to do it under the guise of the above but in reality the main intention/goal is to drive engagement on their posts for their benefit by angering the online mobs. Its gross.

@neildevani Im so sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing about your dear friend so we all know how exceptional he was. I didnt know Idris but as a Pittsburgher who has a child that receives care at UPMC Childrens this news broke my heart. Pediatric physicians truly are special. Sending love

Dr. Idris Evans was one of my closest friends from medical school.

It's been troubling to see big accounts on X use this tragedy to cravenly push their various agendas, so I wanted to share a bit about Idris and the GoFundMe for his wife and kids.

Idris was one of the best humans that I had the opportunity to know.

If you were lucky enough to have ever met him, he probably made you laugh. He had one of the quickest and sharpest wits.

When we were in school together, he was like my older brother. We would commute every day from Center City Philadelphia out to East Falls. He introduced me to great music. He taught me about love and relationships. He introduced me to Dogfish Head 90 Minute after our first set of exams in Year 1. I still think about him any time I have one.

Idris was a big prankster. He would come over and rearrange the furniture. Or leave piles of shaving cream in random places that were hard to reach or not discovered until days later. One time, he took my mattress and shoved it into the stairwell. It was lodged in there so well, it was almost impossible to get it out. He was also generous. He'd come over and make amazing dinners. Or just show up to hang.

After school, Idris chose one of the hardest professions in pediatric critical care.

If you can imagine, you see a lot of young children pass away in that kind of job. You suffer that experience to save the ones you can.

Idris was smart and diligent, the kind of person you'd want working in critical care. He also had the heart and mindset to seek out that hardship, to offer himself in service to others, and then to go even further, to lead and teach others in the field as well.

He leaves behind an amazing wife, who has dedicated her life to helping others as well, and two young boys who will have to make sense of life without their father.

X doesn't seem like the right place to share all this, especially given that Idris was no fan of social media. But I've seen so much craven opportunism, the kind of thing that he would have hated even more than social media, that I felt I had to offer something better in his memory.

He spent his life caring for others and their families. Any support you can offer to his family, even just sharing this post to drown out the noise, would be great:
