got a @sologrants for Deadlink 🚁
@getdeadlink lets one person run a whole team of drones on a search at once. the hard part is when one drops mid-mission, so i built it to catch that, hand the drone's area to another one, and finish the search with a record of what got covered.
works in simulation. this grant puts it on real hardware, where motors actually fail and gps actually drifts.
no equity, no strings. thank you @sologrants@mcmgoodall@julianweisser@aridutilh for betting on it.
next: one real fleet, one dropped drone, and the search still finishes!
Yesterday, we launched Solo Grants to fund the world’s most ambitious passion projects.
In the past 24 hours alone, we've received 300+ applications.
Apply now for up to $1000 https://t.co/fS2HL5qEdD
The world is made of passion projects.
We're supporting more of them.
Up to $1K grants, no strings attached, for people building ambitious projects solo.
Apply @sologrants
Small announcement: I received the Merge/Solo grant(@mergedotclub), supporting my project to make affordable scanning electron microscopes, accompanied by a slew of other scientific equipment. And a sneak peek of what's next :)
Thanks to @mcmgoodall@julianweisser@aridutilh!
1) Built CellLens after getting tired of patching #microscopy repos for #cardiomyocyte videos.
Hybrid: optical flow + #VLM
So far:
• 0.03 BPM avg error
• 100% beat detection on 236 #hiPSC-CM videos
• Works on #fluorescence too
Looking for early testers DM me!

I (w/@Tristan_J_Hall) built a <$900 treadmill that lets you walk in any direction in VR. The closest alternatives with similar functionality cost $40,000. Ours works and it's kind of awesome??
About 1.5 weeks ago, we demoed it @socraticainfo's Symposium! Here's the full story of how it came to be…
This week has been pretty hectic... I went from 𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 to a working build and received a grant from @mergedotclub— all in 6 𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠.
This was the timeline...
Last week, I tested the first ROV prototype for @Stellamatics. This was the first half of my Proof of Concept for autonomous ship propeller cleaning.
A lot worked:
- Basic underwater mobility (forward/back/turn/dive)
- Live camera feed over a long tether
- Control system held up better than I expected
And a lot didn’t (which was the point for this demo):
- Waterproofing failure after a few minutes
- Motors are underpowered due to current limits
- Buoyancy control needs to be active, not manual
- Camera clarity and lighting in murky water need a big upgrade
I've built a lot of dry robots, but this was my first time building an underwater robot.
The biggest win here was the data. Every failure has given me a clear design direction for V2. Better sealing, higher thrust, active buoyancy control, and more sensing.
Next up, I'm building and testing the cleaning/polishing module, which is the core of what this robot is meant to do - clean and polish ship propellers.
Back to work now!

I found an API vulnerability that lets me scrape hundreds of thousands of parking tickets across 1,300+ US cities - and then put them all on a map. https://t.co/JRaPlpDsAJ
(You can even pay someone's ticket for them!)
AthenaDAO featured in @TIME Magazine’s Longevity Issue
We are honored our novel funding mechanism supporting ovarian aging research and women’s longevity is part of this story
It is a watershed moment as some of the research we funded is moving to next stages of R&D
