🗓️ Simulation of the continuation phase of an on-site inspection is advancing at the OSI 2024 Build-Up Exercise (BUE24) in Hungary.
It’s been an action-packed week for the surrogate inspectors negotiating with their counterparts & deploying a wide range of inspection techniques.
All hands on deck from the participants! 📹 Watch the highlights!
🌐 OSI Build-Up Exercise 2024 (BUE24) is underway in Hungary! Simulating the continuation phase of an on-site inspection (OSI), #BUE24 aims to validate & refine OSI capabilities to prepare for #CTBT’s entry into force.
Surrogate inspectors & expert participants are working tirelessly to further narrow the search zones within an inspection area of approx 382 sqkm during this simulation, using increasingly advanced techniques listed in the Treaty, which allow for further examination of the initial findings.

Pleasure for 🇦🇺 to mark the service of Malcolm Coxhead, former Director at the Australian Safeguards & Non-proliferation Office. Malcolm’s long involvement & leadership in the @CTBTO’s technical work has made tangible contributions towards global #nuclear non-proliferation.
The staff of ASNO wish @_RobFloyd every success as he takes up the role of Executive Secretary of @ctbto_alerts. Our loss is a big gain for the CTBTO and the global effort to end nuclear test explosions.

The Australian Government is nominating Dr Robert Floyd as 🇦🇺’s candidate for the Executive Secretary of the CTBTO. @_RobFloyd would provide excellent leadership for @ctbto_alerts in our shared goal to end nuclear weapons testing.

Several of those #nuclear tests took place on Australian soil. We have incurred environmental and human damage from these tests. This contributes to our 🇦🇺 desire to see a legally binding ban on nuclear tests - #CTBT. Thank you @tkassenova for sharing the story of Kazakhstan.
ASNO contributes expertise to developing the @CTBTO_Alerts arrangements for on-site inspection in advance of the entry into force of the #CTBT. It’s important for these inspection/verification tools to be ready to support the treaty.

With chilly winds blowing into Canberra, it’s a timely reminder of the important work of @AusAntarctic & their critical work in monitoring for evidence of #nuclear testing through the dark of the #Antarctic winter. Thanks to our brave Australian expeditioners. #IMS@ctbto_alerts
