So the USMNT has been historically mediocre and many US sports fans are super fairweather and don’t show for anything less than a shot at a championship.
The USWNT has a relatively huge following (in terms of US Soccer for that same reason)
Thanks to people like Beckham and Messi you are starting to see the US MLS become an attractive league to play in.
And until recently the US never really had an Academy system like other nations. Almost all of us played as kids but fell out of it since there was relatively little structure.

I preditct that this World Cup team will do well enough to raise the sport popularity - and with the USL (US tier 2 / 3 / 4 and destined to rise to a tier 1 with MLS) becoming a Promotion/Relegation league you will see a change in attitudes.

Nothing makes a US sport more popular than global success.
@SECBarstool People are all up in arms about what it is valued to a fanbase.
I will answer your actual question.
It would be like Navy winning a Natty.
US fans are used to skipping the opening ceremonies of games.
Watch American Football, Soccer (Football, Futbol), Baseball, Hockey - so many people just linger in the concourses, tailgates, event spaces outside the stadium.
The real “count” of fans should be taken about 5 minutes after game start.
There is something to be said about that as well but is an entirely different conversation.
@BRFCJohn
We just love keeping stuff from England’s history.
We still insist in using Imperial Measurement, started by yall in like 1824.
We field a huge Navy to dominate the oceans as was historically an English thing (save for that lil bit with the Spanish Armada)
We call it Soccer (From the English love of fun terms like Ruggers, Brekkers, Champers)

All just proof that we will always be kin.
Enjoy the Cup my brother.
So the US itself has every climate on Earth save for the Antarctic. It has coasts, pains, deserts, mountains, etc.
Many Americans can see just about everything Earth has to offer without needing a passport.
Those that end up with some are either doing it for school, work, just love travel, or love history (and some are all of the above like me.)
Because an upturned hand is almost a universally understood “Stop” or “Halt” symbol. Even if you can’t see the color red well the hand gesture of an upturned palm would tip you off.
It is then also red because that is a universal color for stop. Our signs, our lights, and our little hand all say the same.
The military wing of Germany was the Wehrmacht. The SS were a paramilitary wing that grew out of Hitlers bodyguard.
I will give you credit that the SS did eventually form the Waffen-SS units that went on to do horrific crimes against humanity.
——- unless you are arguing that the Nazi Party should only include card carrying members of the party and not a blanket for all of Germany under Hitler’s rule.
Then I concede the point.
I mean you can beg all you want.
They aren’t gonna give it to you.
They are gonna die on the hill that for 15 years he:
never popped open google to see who else might have it so they could connect over shared tattoo culture.
Never watched Indiana Jones. Never watched any other period piece - funny or otherwise.
Never was told by anyone else who saw it.
Never got curious any time he looked at himself in the mirror.
Never batted an eyebrow when showering or on the pot.
Never thought the tat was getting a bit faded and he should go in for a touch up - only to be told “guy I don’t do that Nazi stuff”
Nope. Totes never happened.
@patbahn@inarchus@ryangrim Yes.
The fact they don’t is an indictment of the educational system in the US today.
And the fact that more people don’t expect them to is an indictment of US society as a whole.
@abbyinmaine@inarchus@ryangrim This picture is wrong - what is listed as the Totenkoph is in fact - not.
Either they are historically illiterate - or are shilling for Nazi culture. You should be ashamed for posting it.
The one platner had was - in fact - the Totenkoph.
