Thanks, I'm not at all in charge of future grant programs (and don't plan to be π). This was never a full fledged program, just a stop gap we did to buy time for the Endowment, it was bound to be somewhere short of the endgame for grants.Β
We did SIP-31 so y'all would no longer have the limitations I have at the foundation. These are real and serious whether y'all choose to believe me or not.Β I believe this interim program, even with it's limitations, is helping and I'm glad we did it.
And yes, in the interest of common ground and moving forward productively that would be great. In that vein, I'll be honest so I'm not harboring it and because maybe it's a good reminder for us all: You say that you understand we both 'only want what's best for Stacks' but none of the messaging or approach the last 24 hours makes me feel like that was extended toward me/committee.
Specifically, I'd love to feel a little more like you were coming at me/the team/committee/or really any contributor without what comes off like assuming they are out to get someone or doing anything less than their best. From my perspective this jumped right to outrage and digs in a situation where a few questions or call would be a great place to start, not end. Candidly, I also think there's unnecessarily aggressive/rude things injected into otherwise good thoughts and dialog. Maybe you meant it that way, maybe you didn't, maybe I'm missing your sense of humor, I don't know. I hope we can get to respectfully disagreeing faster, be slower to blame/assume and lead with more benefit of the doubt and an understanding that each other's situations and realities are fundamentally different. I may not understand why you have to do certain things, and vice versa, but I respect it.
There's no reason it would make any sense for me to do anything less than everything I can for builders and having dedicated 8 years of my life helping create this project from nothing, what I perceive as insinuations/accusations otherwise I think are unfair. I believe a ton of builders in this community would vouch for me on how much I've helped, both in my own time and professionally.
I'm sending this at 11 something pm here having started today at 7, so if my words here aren't perfect I'm sorry, I'm not trying to belabor this or stir it up more, just wanted be real with you too because that's how I show respect.Β
Also I'm not a communist or a soy boy or a legal boy, just for the record π
Sure, also maybe worth noting that a lot of the commentary on the BNS one application in particular is from general community members and not myself or the committee - so in terms of 'handling' hopefully we're not on the hook for public commentary there.
The comments/questions from us are consistent with other grants in pursuit of milestones and again, I don't find them disrespectful but as you've pointed out, that is subjective. All I can say is that my team and I engage in these reviews in good faith and with professionalism, all with the goal of helping the team/ecosystem.
2οΈβ£ Open-ended Grants:
Similar to our previous grant programs, weβll take applications of all varieties from builders in the community using Github. The program will operate with a strong preference toward known Stacks builders (typically those building open-source) that have indicators of traction or demand.

@stxwatch@Stacks@one_bns Got it, so just so everyone is clear, that is completely separate program run by and decided upon by community stewards. BNS One applied for an Interim Grant which is still in review.
@stxwatch@Stacks@one_bns@jackbinswitch@DiegoMey@jsadlowe I disagree that any pressure on milestones, especially with a goal of creating clarity and transparency and a maximization of impact, is a bad practice. Work needs to be clear and measurable, it's really that simple or you cannot have a functioning grant program.
The Stacks Foundation has a heavy bias, as noted in the post about grants, toward folks that are building open-source - we always have. This interim program is intended as bridge until the Stacks Endowment launches a larger program. We also have legal limitations on occasion as well, so certain questions need to be asked so we don't unwittingly put the whole asset at risked. It's not optional for us to sus these things out and I'm sorry it's frustrating, but we've been able to get to a yes on the majority of these grants. https://t.co/B0fry7LcDU
@MooningSharkArt@stxwatch@Stacks@one_bns They are being refused on misinformation (BNS grant is still being reviewed and discussed with the team, it has not been rejected). All the commentary is public on Github regarding milestones - I personally do not find anything there hostile.
No is trying to corner anyone. The SOW for these agreements is what is on the Github page and the standard grant agreement we've used for years without issue. If you're hearing hostile things, feel free to send them to us at [email protected]. We're in direct touch with all the grantees and we take the approach of making adjustments to agreements if needed/asked. Everyone's grants are different so we accept redlines as with any partnership to make sure the agreements make sense for everyone. There's always some back and forth on these as with any business agreement, thus far nothing we've received has been hostile.
@no__hive@MooningSharkArt@Stacks I was just clarifying for others because I don't decide on DeGrants awards and I didn't ask anyone to lower their expectations. Stewards decide DeGrants.
@EkioAbraham @RaphaStacks Several payments have already been made, all other awarded grantees are in the process of finishing their agreements and receiving payouts for their first Milestones. They're in direct contact with my team for everything they need.
@RaphaStacks All the first milestones are paid out in full. All the grantees know this and are in the process of finishing their paperwork to receive payments.
