This is the same Taliban that banned girls from secondary schools and forced them into marriage. The same Taliban that detains, beats and executes women who dare to speak out or break their rules.

Through its system of gender apartheid, the Taliban have erased women and girls from public life. Europe must not legitimise a regime responsible for one of the worst human rights crises in the world.

Any engagement with the Taliban must begin and end with the rights of Afghan women and girls.

Based on the evidence we have today, Chinese agricultural societies lived alongside native Asian leopard cats for thousands of years. But the modern domestic cats of African descent that we keep in our homes today didn't reach Chinese territory via the Silk Road until between 600 and 900 AD. So, in the 11th century when this painting was created, a cat with a silk ribbon tied around its neck was still a fairly novel pet among the wealthy elite.

Now, let's look at the details in the lower-left corner. The monkey has a thick rope tied around its neck. This rope is tied with a sturdy knot to an iron ring, which is then fastened to a wooden stake driven into the ground.

The choice of animals in the painting isn't random. In Chinese, the word for monkey, hou, sounds identical to the word for high rank or nobility. Similarly, the word for cat, mao (猫 -- māo), sounds very similar to the word for advanced age and longevity (耄). So, by bringing these two animals together in a single composition, the artist is wishing the patron who commissioned the work high political standing and a long life.

Putin didn’t invade Ukraine because he opposed NATO enlargement.
Putin opposed NATO enlargement because it would have prevented his goal of invading and eliminating Ukraine.
The ideas he had a quarter century ago - that Ukraine (and Kazakhstan) are “artificial countries” that have been “given away” by Russia and therefore must return — are the ideas he still holds today.

Just because YOU might own a gun and be safe and responsible with it, doesn’t mean everyone is.

The unfettered access to powerful weapons, without appropriate background checks, red flag laws, and reasonable limits on things like magazines and weapon types, leaves America vulnerable.

The right to bear arms, is not the right to bear all arms.

You’re not allowed machine guns or grenades, rockets, mortars and other weapons.

We should implement the restrictions and safety checks that 90% of Americans support, and stop letting our children got shot, while we blame unrelated causes.
