This is not the first time Shimelis Abdisa has made hateful and genocidal statements about the Amhara people. In a televised speech at an Oromo festival in 2019, he had told a large gathering of Oromos that they have “broken the back of the neftegna (Amhara), where they broke us” and claimed ownership of Addis Ababa to Oromo.
