When a large employer pays so little that their full time employees qualify for Medicaid , (or any public assistance ) we the taxpayers are effectively subsidizing that big company. That’s wrong
Pope Francis has died.
He dedicated himself to marginalized people – especially refugees – as the world’s politicians fought culture wars.
Here’s how the first Pope from the Global South changed the narrative:
#TheKingCenter presents, ‘Sharing Our History, Shaping Our Future,’ a 2025 Black History Month series.
Dr. Maya Angelou once said, “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.”
Of course, not all Black History was tragic. And, as we remember all aspects of Black History, we are reminded that Black History is Human History.
Black History is World History.
We celebrate the triumphs of our past; we contemplate the troubles and trauma of our past with courage.
We call on our World House to join in committing to creating the Beloved Community, so that horrors are not lived again and our collective human capacity to learn to live together is realized.
When we remember Black History truthfully and with intent to gain wisdom and lessons for today, we make good history and shape a just, humane, peaceful future.
We are ‘Sharing Our History, Shaping Our Future.’

This is the important human story about who decides to take a perilous journey, who is willing to risk everything and bet on themselves on the future they can create.

“The famous poem inscribed on the Statue of Liberty mischaracterizes those who leave their home countries behind. They are not the tired and the poor; they are people possessed of the determination, skill and resources to seek a better life.” @nytopinion
On #InternationalMigrantsDay day I want to celebrate the hundreds of migrants who have made decisions for their families seeking a better life, acknowledging the tremendous hardships endured and often perilous journeys in search of life, liberty and, yes, pursuit of happiness.
@ReichlinMelnick This. And for many it will mean either permanent family division or permanent life outside the US (including for US Citizens) It will take years (if ever) to be considered for re-entry. Please note this impacts all socioeconomic classes.
@ackocher This. The Hollywood version lives in people’s minds and for those who have never touched the US immigration process don’t understand how many *years* it takes to be considered and difficult it is to get a visa let alone residency or citizenship.
No one speaks for our community. We're too diverse. We're too broad. So we need everyone telling their stories.

"You are not lucky to be here. The world needs your perspective. They are lucky to have you." https://t.co/WyMKNbWsID - Jose Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation @HHFoundation Powerful true words for Hispanic Heritage month and every month
@TeamStubHub I’ve texted you but have very low hope of StubHub doing anything to resolve this. (Having started this saga over 2 months ago with customer service calls and waiting for you to get back to me before I call again only to find out there is no record of “looking into this”)
Everytime I used @StubHub I am reminded why I should never use StubHub. Multiple calls and chats with both call center and online chat still led to no solution other than to dispute with my bank. Thank you @Chase (I guess StubHub is outsourcing to you!)
Watch this. This is a remarkable piece of journalism from @newshour about what's actually happening in Springfield, Ohio, where JD Vance lied and said Haitians are eating cats.
No cat murder, no braindead teen gossip Facebook scaremongering — just the reality in this town.
Millions of people are not "pouring into our country monthly." Crossings are currently at their lowest level since August 2020.
Data from the DHS suggests roughly 4.2 million migrants have been released after crossing the southern border through April 2024. Not 20 million.
Childcare subsidies are framed as supporting parents whereas different working models allowing more and more flexible parental leave and more time with children would actually achieve better outcomes
this whole nanny conversation sparked by the New Yorker reminds me that the best evidence we have for child outcomes is kids in their early years being mostly looked after by their parents or relatives, but all the major childcare proposals are oriented around daycare subsidies
This is one of the most powerful and accurate accounts of the Darien Gap migration. “the density of the jungle makes it difficult to contend at any one moment with the humanitarian catastrophe it contains, and the many policy failures that led people there.” @itscaitlinhd
If you haven’t read @itscaitlinhd’s account of her Darién Gap travels yet, I urge you to do so. It has convinced me she’s the most vital reporter working today, and it’s full of devastating, breathtaking paragraphs like this. https://t.co/p1rioBuYFc
